Creative Equipment Inc. of Miami Florida is selling a monitor called the 1962. From all reports, it's real, it's available, it's a good solution. I understand it's a tri-sync model, capable of 15.7kHz (good for Toaster), 31.4kHz, and one other H scan rate. I, too, hear of the Electrohome connection, but I don't know for sure.

CEI claims that the 1962 is a true multi-sync, not a tri-sync. It's supposed to scan all horizontal frequencies between 15 and 40-KHz. I can't confirm this because the one I ordered hasn't arrived yet. 🙁 I don't know if it's an Electrohome or not. The Electrohome has the same H-Sync specs. I've also heard that the 1962 auto-sizes/auto-centers the different video modes. The Electrohome is supposed to have a similar feature.

Could you give me the phone number to CEI? Also, if you don't mind, what is the price (delivered) of this 1962 monitor? Thanks.

Call your dealer. CEI doesn't (to my knowledge) sell direct. They are a distributor. They are pretty good about getting information to dealers, so your dealer should be able to get an answer to you. — Dale L. Larson, Intangible Assets Manufacturing

Leslie: CEI's number is 800-334-3122. Please note that they are a distributor and don't sell directly to end-users. If you represent an Amiga dealer, I'll be glad to forward the wholesale price via C-Mail. Otherwise, list price will probably be $499-$549 depending on your local dealer. Wayne

If this is the same Creative Equipment I think it is, they do have a store in Miami for end-users. No idea if they will ship from there though…

Steve: Since CEI is located in Miami, it's probably the same organization you're referring to. They claim not to compete with dealers, so they probably don't do mail-order, etc. Wayne

I called CEI for the heck'uvit just get some information. They wouldn't talk to me at all which I expected. Does the 1962 monitor carry the Commodore name and does it display Super 72? Thanks.

Leslie: The 1962 is being marketed under CEI's brand name, not Commodore's. It does display Super 72 and every other Amiga display mode currently available. I've talked to a couple of users who have a 1962. They seem to like it very much. I'm expecting one to arrive on Monday or Tuesday, so I'll give you a first-hand report. Wayne

LTB >>Does the 1962 monitor carry the Commodore name and does it display Super 72? Thanks.<< My local Amiga dealer has received some, and claims that the 1962 synced to every mode he through at it, including Super72. Ron. – ap'ing with AP. ->I understand it's a tri-sync model, capable of 15.7kHz (good for Toaster), 31.4kHz, and one other H scan rate. I, too, hear of the Electrohome connection, but I don't know for sure. I'd rather get a true multisync in case I decide to use the monitor on a different computer. One of the things that annoys me is that the sync rate is not posted on the outside of the monitor boxes. When I browse CompUSA I don't know if a monitor will work in all Amiga resolutions or not. As for the Creative Computer monitor; I called CC a few weeks ago and asked them if they have the Electrohome monitors. I was told that they WERE going to carry them but Creative Computer thought they were poor quality. Now, they come out with a monitor with their name on it with the exact same specs and price. Sounds fishy to me. A couple days ago I asked CC who makes their multisync monitor for them. After a lot of "hems and haws" the sales guy said, "We make the monitor." Maybe it's all a conicidence but it sure SEEMS like they are pasting their name on the Electrohome monitors but I'm not sure.

> "We make the monitor." Creative Computers doesn't have the facilities to manufacture their own monitor. The person who told you this was either mis-informed or unwilling to reveal the monitors true origin.

"We make" sometimes means "we wrote the manual, we bundled the cable, we created the packaging." No, they didn't wire, screw and solder the monitor together, but for all reasonable intents and purposes *to an end- user*, CEI is the manufacturer. This is the same thing that happens with a lot of products and a lot of companies. The name badge on the product doesn't necessarily represent a factory. — Dale L. Dale: I agree. However, I think consumers have the right to know who the OEM is if they so desire. No biggie, really. Wayne

I think that is happening more. Some people are even advertising who the OEM is, and some OEMs are advertising which brands they are sold under. Of course, this is only happening with OEMs who have a fairly high standard of quality… 🙂 — Dale L. Larson, Intangible Assets Manufacturing
