According to press announcments from Commodore International and other sources, all the Commodore Europe companies still in operation (Commodore UK, Commodore GMBH, Commodore France, etc.), are wholly owned companies and is still selling Amiga products from existing stock. The following statments are based on rumors: As you may have heard, Samsung, a Korean electronics conglomerate, is supposedly in final negotiations to purchase the Amiga technology. A court date has been set for May 31st, in the Bahamas, if a purchasing settlement is not reached between the trustees and liquidators of Commodore and Samsung. If the deal falls through, other parties are petitioning the court to purchase the technology. Samsung has a lot to gain if a deal can be negotiated. The technology could be used in interactive, multimedia, "set-top boxes" in a cable television network. Samsung would have almost instant access to the European market via the wholly owned Commodore companies, which will be used as distribution and marketing centers. Samsung could immediately grant licenses to interested companies who wish to manufacture Amiga A4000 or A1200 "clones".

I think we need to hard-core pray that Samsung takes the Amy under it's huge financial wing. I don't think anyone else has the bucks for enough of a media push to stop the inevitable. Understanding, of course, that the only press the Amiga has seen on a global scale lately is it's "demise" along with Commodore. (Which isn't the truth, yet… but is still the buzz.)

Amen, brother. Samsung gives it the credibility it needs, and finally put an end to the "teetering on the edge" profile it's had in the last year.

Michael, No problem… By the way, the Amiga Arts+/MultiMedia section is awfully lonely, ask your questions there. I'll be visiting on a regular basis. Regards, John Chang Technical Support Manager Scala, Inc.

Frederic, from what I have read, C= France has closed because it wasn't viable to keep it up as they did rely heavily on the C= MS-DOS PCs. A new company has been founded instantaniously afterwards, called "Amiga France" or something along that line… // Chris from Amigaland (Germany) \X/ flyin' high on AutoPilot 1.72

You're basically true, C= France heavily relying on PCs and suffered from big losses when the decision to drop PCs has been taken. But they are other reasons : they got involved in sports like soccer and sailing, putting huge amounts of money… Their ads. didn't even mention 'Amiga', just Commodore, which doesn not always ring a bell to possible customers! Moreover, they sponsored a sailing world tour record which remained a success only for a few months : the record has been stolen twice since then! And I can remember daily reports on French TV where you could not spot the Commodore name (which was printed on the sails), but you could easily seen the Mac used aboard! Silly isn't it?! C= France employees haven't been paid their 2 last months. The company called Amiga Computer Export France is something owned and driven by Alwin Stumpf, head of C= Germany, settled in Frankfurt. It just allows people to order C= stuff, but in no way does replace the late C= France. (No presence in shops, malls etc.) Fred. Frederic Botton from Paris, France fbotton@cix.compulink.co.uk
