"I had configured my MACH64 with 100Hz for all resolutions" I am glad you were able to figure out that the 75Hz worked. This is a new one on me, but it probably won't be the last time I run into this issue. Your slow loading – is this connected with the 75Hz thing, do you think? I would experiment with different bootups. It's possible that using EMM386 could slow things down. (I know it can with DOS 6 and AAPro but this may not apply here since the Phar Lap versions are different.) Try a plain boot, then start 3DS after loading your mouse and see if that's faster. If you're running EMM386, experiment with the switches on the EMM386 line.

Hello Nik, hello Randy ! Thank you for your help. I tried it out, but nothing helped. I started my system without config.sys & autoexec.bat. I loaded the MS-Mouse-Driver and started 3D-Studio. It takes as long to load, as it takes with my normal configuration (about 1minute ! ! ! ). For your interest: In my normal configuration I'm using QEMM7.04 instead of HIMEM/EMM386. If i start Release 2 of 3D-Studio, it takes only 10 sec. So, please let me know, what I can do else. Matthias P.s: I solved my problem with the 75Hz/100Hz. In the File 3DSUPD.ZIP are new VIBRANT Drivers Rel. P2. These drivers let me use my ATI-Card with 100Hz.

"It takes as long to load, as it takes with my normal configuration (about 1minute ! ! ! )." The loading time seems unusually long. (By the way, thanks for the feedback on the ATI card and the 3DSUPD.ZIP file cure.) The way you've phrased it, it sounds as though you get faster startup times if you have the ATI card configured for lower (say, VESA) resolutions like 640x480x256. It could be that the long startup comes from the Vibrant configuration portion of the loading. I have not run into this before however, so this is only a theory. If you temporarily reconfigure for 640x480x256, then restart 3DS, are the loading times still as long? Or does this "fix" the problem? Nik

Just as a note, the Mach64 BIOS takes 4-8 seconds to return the memory size of the chip so initializing is quite a bit slower than normal. 20secs does sound a bit outrageous however… Chuck Walbourn – Vibrant Graphics

Hello Nik, i tried it out. I configured 3-DStudio for VESA, instead of Vibrant. My loading time is now about 45 seconds. To know, if it depends on video-card, i changed the card. With the SPEA Mercury 4MB VLB the loading time is now 10 sec. ! ! So, that's it. Maybe ATI can help. Until then, I have to live with the long loading time. It's worth to wait a little bit longer. Thanks, Matthias P.s.: If there are news in future about my problem, please let me know.

"With the SPEA Mercury 4MB VLB the loading time is now 10 sec. ! !" Yikes! Thank you for taking the time to experiment with this. This is quite unusual. The ATI folks might be able to help, since Vibrant's Chuck Walbourne seems unaware of a delay this long. I'll make a copy of your message and we'll look into it. Nik
