#How do I use Mosaic?

OK. This is it. I finally decided to hook up to WWW. Now, just one minor
question: HOW?
I have Amiga Mosaic (all three- AmiTCP, DNET, and NONET). I have AmiTCP
3.whatever it is. I have DNET 3.whatever it is.
How do I get all these numbers it wants me to enter (130.223.161.50) etc…?
If you haven't noticed, I'll tell you: I don't know anything about this…

You only need the AmiTCP version of AMosaic. You also need PPP, which is in
the libraries in this forum. You might also want to download the file
PPPHLP.LHA (it's some thing very similar to that), which contains a thorough
description of a working set-up. Install PPP *first*, following it's
directions carefully. The PPP installation instructions contain information
you'll need to install (or re-install) AmiTCP. Then install the AmiTCP
version of AMosaic.

No, not your fault. I think my drive is just getting old 8)
Anyway, I tried it. I have PPP downloaded into DH0:PPP/ I moved the PPP/Devs
to SYS:Devs/ and the SANAII driver into the Networks/ directory in Devs/.
I installed AmiTCP as described in PPPHLP.TXT.
I had the installer update my user-startup file.
Now, when I run startnet, I get the following:
ifconfig: ioctl (SIOCGIFFLAGS): no such interface ifconfig: ioctl
(SIOCGIFFLAGS): no such interface add host KShafer.compuserve.com: gateway
localhost: Network is unreachable add net default: gateway 0.0.0.0: Network is
unreachable
I really am at a loss: I'm not all that sure what I'm doing (Never thought I'd
say that about computers 8)
Any suggestions you have would be _greatly_ appreciated.

I'm not sure, but it sounds funny. I may just misunderstand. When I type "dir
DEVS:" in a shell window, I get a sub-directory called "Networks", among other
things. When I type "dir DEVS:Networks", I get "ppp.device" only. I imagine
it doesn't hurt to have other things there, but that's all I have, and it
works.

hostname? You shouldn't have added the ".compuserve.com" to the hostname, if
you did that. If the software is adding it, I don't know what's going on.

computers 8)<< Network stuff is apparently very different from single-computer
software. This isn't at all straightforward.
Try those things. You might double-check your startnet script against the one
listed in PPPHLP.txt. Or, you can execute the lines in your startnet script
manually, one-by-one, to see where the error occurs.
The best of all worlds, of course, will occur if someone else says "Oh, yeah,
you need to do this: …"
