Hi Margo. Just wanted to warn you of the influx of fun loving Nautilus
Subscribers coming your way. We have all been involved in the beta test
that MS offered us through Nautilus. Now they are closing our forum so we
decided since we all met through you then we'll call this home. Besides I
have been monitoring this forum and you must be dying of boredom. We come
to brighten up your life. Hopefully we will be able to lure more people to
Nautilus and make the family even larger.
So prepare yourself because here we come.

It is good to see that you are willing to welcome us with open arms. We
thought we might have to take over by force and we had a battle plan
prepared. You stood no chance, you would have been the Saddem of forums.
The reason you have to watch Paul is because he is sneaky. Just keep your
eye on him and don't believe anything they say about me.

Yeah, we had wandered once the official time was up on the meter.
Naw, can't talk about the weather. Things are back to seasonal normal of
around -20C. So I can't really complain about it. Besides only one more
week and I'm off to the tropics. This time next week I'll be sitting with
my arm around my wife. So you are looking at one happy fella.

My wife is in Puerto Rico, selling our house there. So no one to hug except
my 11 year old! (Reminds me of the bumper stickers about hugging your kid).
She is having better weather than flood-alerted Southern California, too.
What happened to that song that said it never rained here?
I seem to recall you are off to the Phillipines, right? Sounds exciting,
having never been there. A friend taught me, or tried to, a few Tagalog
words, which I have forgotten. Bon Voyage.
Check around and I bet you find some little green apples also. Yes I'm
heading for the tropics and am looking forward to it. I know a few words
in Tagalog but I can't say them to you. I'm not that kind of guy.<g>

I know. The first things I learned in Spanish were not of the sort that I
would say at home. What did it get me? The only Gringo programming a
Spanish language radio station in the USA!
No No I didn't learn any of those words, although her mother did teach me a
few but I forgot those. But the words I do know I wouldn't say to you,
you're just not my type.
So David tell me. You're into programming, could you tell me if there is a
good interactive programming course availible. I don't have time to attend
a school, and home studies just don't work for me. I was hoping to find
something completely computer based.

I learned programming by trial, error and necessity! In about '82 I bought
a computer systemand a custom program for my business, and before the
program was delivered, they went out of business. So I picked up dBase II
and hacked until I got what I wanted. I went on to hack in assembler, basic
and a bit of C. However, I did most of this with books and experimentation.
The main thing is to have a project to work on, so there is a definable
goal and something to see as an objective.
Thanks Dave any suggestion on what lanuage to work on first.

Watch out for both Kevin and Paul. They said that a beachhead was
established, so I came over from the MS beta to see. If Nautilus is going
to arrange multimedia beta testing for subscribers on a regular basis, that
is another good reason (besides value, etc.) to subscribe!
How long did it take to produce the wonderful "Nutcracker Suite" that
arrived just before Christmas? That's something that I enjoyed almost as
much as the Video for Windows runtime module that came in November.

I'm back in Pittsburgh, and I wonder if we can do the source code things
via email? I'd like to do an example of the RIFF walker for an issue of
Nautilus, and of course you can have my code when I'm done.
Here is what i would need:
* An example of code where you use WINAPI functions to access a C structure
that includes a variety of data types — WORD, DWORD, UINT, LPSTR, etc.
* An example of handling memory allocation based on variable sizes that
need to be allocated.
If you have developed general purpose routines that handle thse things, I
would like to see that.
I think I have the DLL stufff down OK.

Well thanks Kevin for at least that much. I received your video today. You
lucky dog. Your wife is beautiful. I can see why you've been having cabin
fever. The priest was quite the crooner, wasn't he? It was a very nice
ceremony. The musical selections were very nice. I got really hungry
watching the reception–it looks like they lay out quite a spread. I guess
you were right about the paperwork, the package was opened by customs. They
need to learn how to rewind and how to repack. All the little styrofoam
things were all over the place. Anyways, again my best wishes, you lucky
dog. I'll get the Windows Magazine out to you this week.

I'm happy you enjoyed it. Did you have any problems picking me out of the
crowd. You are right about my wife being beautiful but she also has a
great sense of humor (which is important with me). I was just talking to
her tonight giving her my travel arrangements. She is getting pretty
excited about me getting there. Can't blame her though I'm such a looker.
Oh yea my hair usually doesn't look like that. The hairdresser blew dry my
hair straight back, which I don't do. Loaded it up with hairspray then put
me in a open jeep to go to the church. The service was something I never
experienced or saw before being single to that point. We had over six
hundred people at the wedding and dinner. The whole thing cost me less
then six grand. They do it a little different over there. Instead of a
reception after the wedding they have a dance party the night before. I
have a video of that also but I can't dance so I don't show it. I had two
hours sleep before the wedding(didn't I look cute). They slaughtered four
pigs for the dinner. The cooks worked through the night cooking over open
fires. The dinner was right after the wedding ceremony and I have never
shook hands and smiled at so many people in my lifetime. The whole
experience was something I was glad to have had. It was a great time
bodyguards and all.

Oh yea you didn't say how you liked the tape. Don't tell me customs took
it.

You looked a bit dazed by the experience (or jet lag), but you look like my
brother at his wedding (and you actually look like my brother: he has
brown hair too). I enjoyed the tape very much. Everyone looked very sweet
or handsome (you too Kevin). No customs didn't take the tape, but they must
of looked at it because they didn't rewind it completely (big brother at
work). It looks like a tropical paradise there. That makeup artist sure was
rough. I don't see him doing that in Hollywood. Your wife sure doesn't need
makeup. There were a few traditional things I recognized. You literally
tie the knot there, don't you? I liked the shirts your groomsmen wore too.
Very cool and comfortable. I always like weddings.
I enjoyed the Syncrude video too (Haulpaks in action).

Yea Paul I sure did looked dazed. But it wasn't the experience or jet lag,
I was there a week before the wedding. But I think what did it was the two
hours sleep before the wedding. The reason customs looked at it was
because they are worried about people sending porn by video. Boy they sure
don't know me. I wish I would have gotten married in the traditional
clothing. I don't know if you can tell but I am dying there. It was well
over a hundred degrees and that was nine in the morning. There was and
audio tape with the package though wasn't there. I'm waiting to hear your
review on the Bare Naked Ladies and the Crash Test Dummies. It is a
paradise there and the people are so friendly. I'm looking forward to
heading back this week. After my hairdo that makeup artist was a real
favorite of mine, most people are suprised when I tell them the hairdresser
is male. If you don't watch him you don't really notice. The ceremony was
on the whole traditional but there are a few different things tossed in.
Like the rope and the veil and the golden cage with the coins in it. I was
sorry I couldn't afford to take my parents down with me. They would have
enjoyed it especially my father since he didn't have to pay for it. Also
because I was the last one of their rug rats to get married.

I got the audio tape. I will get around to playing it and let you know what
I think. The makeup artist was a hard one to figure–maybe he would fit in
in Hollywood.

Happy to hear you got the tape. I was starting to think that customs
decided to keep it. I think you will enjoy the music unless you are
strictly classical fan. But I think I recall you thanking us for Neil
Young so you have some taste in music anyway. As for that hairdresser I
don't really know if he belongs anywhere.

Well, yeah, but you're going to be among the missing for like 30 days
or so and we won't hear much from you until March, right?

I don't look back to the good old days except in friends and relatives that
are no longer here. The world in an international sense is getting better
while on the local (or national) level crime (perhaps because of better
media coverage) seems like it's on the rise, although it seems they said
that thirty years ago too. There's always a few trouble spots in the world,
perhaps what's happening in the remains of Yugoslavia is the worst at the
moment. A Serbian organization got bombed here in Chicago just yesterday.
The Europeans seem a little hestitant to do anything about it, so
inevitably we probably will.

Sure they said it thirty years ago. They were right and it is still
rising. When the Iron Wall was there that was the only thing stopping
another globial war. It isn't there now the threat of nukes flying is
greatly reduced now. Now I think we will see things really heat up,
instead of a world war we are going to have three or four little wars going
on with our countries involved. Watch the Arab nations unite now against
the USA. I don't mean to be all gloom and doom but I just don't see any
solution here. We get rid of that idiot Saddam there will just be someone
else to take his place.

History would really be at an end if the Saddams stopped doing their thing.
If the Europeans can unite (sort of) then the Arabs could if their
objectives were peaceful. I think the progress for humanity is defined by
our abilities to handle these problems before they break out into a larger
conflict. The problems before were compounded by two sides supplying arms
to their side. The Russians have stopped supporting the Saddams and we have
stopped supporting the other side. This really diminishes the possibility
of another Vietnam.

Russia and the USofA may not be supplying the arms but there are many to
take their place. Being warlike is in the Arab way of life. It always has
been and it won't stop. It is like the American Indians and the First
Nation of Canada. Their lifestyle included raiding the enemy camp and
carrying off all you could carry. The hatred between the Isreali and the
Arab goes back to the beginning of time. I don't think that will ever
change. Hate to break this to ya but it just wasn't Russia supplying Saddam
with his toys.
By the way have you received you lastest volume of Nautilus yet. I hope it
comes in before I leave, I don't know if I'll have time to when I get back.
We're gonna havta talk about Nautilus sometime or they'll kick us out of
here too.
