Gabe, <1> couldn't agree with you more… <2> dto. <3> Christian wrote kinda 'minimum requirements' for the new generation Amigas – if you don't do DTP with 100megs or more of fonts or video works or have loads of games HD installed you don't actually NEED that much HD space – contrary to, for example, Windows 95 which needs about 50 megs ALONE! One of the main advantages of the Amiga has always been that it doesn't waste your valuable resources (RAM, disk space, even display space – what needs 800×600 on a Windows PC fits comfortably on an Amiga 640×512 screen…) – the OS needs only about 5 megs on your HD – that's the amount MS DOS needs without any Windows stuff at the moment – Win95 see above. The average Windows app needs between 10 and 25 megs HD space and 8 megs of RAM, software development (like C++) needs up to 100megs HD and at least 16 megs RAM. Amiga programs always have made do with MUCH less (imagine a Windows PC with 2 megs of RAM and a 120meg HD) and I hope this 'slick' programming will hold for the future. <4> yeah. <5> right! <bottom line> Hooray!!! // Christian "ELP" Busse \X/ near Frankfurt, Germany

In todays market, at least in the U.S., the larger hard drives are not much more money than a small one. (ie. in IDE drives an 850 meg drive is $40 more than a 540 meg drive) SCSI drives have similar pricing increments. While we may save 20 meg on a basic system by not installing Windoze, hard drive space is still a selling feature. If a new Amiga came to market with less than a 250 meg drive, I'd probably think twice before buying. After all, when all those developers flock back to the Amiga, you are going to need the extra space to hold all that new software.

RIGHT ON! Perception is such an important factor for success. The price reasoning is also true.

Ah, but although many of your argumentation is correct concerning what is realistically necessary, there is an even more point to consider: the one that killed the AMiga in the first place… PERCEPTION The market needs to take notice of these new machines in a positive sense only. What they can do better in certain areas than Windows PCs. Yes. But the specs must promote an automatic positive feed-back, or the very least, not subject to negative press.

The 800×600 minimum screen resolution is a must. Even a lowly $750 PC has an SVGA board of some sort in it. Business users in the US are already demanding 17" 1024 x 768 min. res. By the end of this year, on cheapo buys will not have at leat a 15" monitor…
