#DP 5 Drivers?

Hi Asha, I've been looking at DP5 and haven't purchased it because it looked to me that you need Magic Lantern to output 8-24 bit animations. You said it gives the option to use your Picasso for output? Don't suppose it offered and Opalvision output? When I finally got to talk to someone who supposedly knew anything slightly technical about the programs capabilities, they told me it only held the 24 bit data in memory and used Amiga modes. I would like to retarget the display or animation to my Opalvision card. I know Magic Lantern will do this and very well from what I understand. Perhaps these vendors should bundle the two for package deal or something. Opalanimate is OK but it would have been nice if it created an anim format that could be read by other software. I haven't even been able to find out what anim format Opalanimate is using. I sure isn't in the documentation. Rick

why not get imagefx 2.0 from nova designs? dp5/etc never can and never will support 24bit color output

Rick, > I've been looking at DP5 and haven't purchased it because it looked to me that you need Magic Lantern to output 8-24 bit animations I am not familiar with Magic Lantern, what is that? Software? Hardware? It does sound interesting! >You said it gives the option to use your Picasso for output? Don't suppose it offered and Opalvision output? Nope, no Opal output. But it doesn't output CORRECTLY to Picasso either, even though the modes come up on the opening requestor. A lot of things don't work right, some crash the system when you try them, and when trying to save (in 256 color Picasso mode) all I get is some strange garbage that reminds me of colored lacey screen snow…:( >I would like to retarget the display or animation to my Opalvision card. I know Magic Lantern will do this and very well from what I understand. Now I'm even MORE interested in Magic Lantern! >Perhaps these vendors should bundle the two for package deal or something. DPaint V is the last productivity program from EA, according to them, so I doubt they'll be bundling ANYTHING… In any event, I'm EXTREMELY unimpressed with DPaint V, intend to re-install DPaint IV next time I need the program. Wasted $70 or so but what to do? EA SAID they'd get back to me on my problems, but I'm not holding my breath. Skimming through the Redwoods on AutoPilot Asha

Magic lantern is made from inovision i thenk so why in hell would EA bundle someone's competing product with theirs?

Lepido, >Magic lantern is made from inovision i thenk so why in hell would EA bundle someone's competing product with theirs? I don't know…stranger things have happened (witness the past year)… In any event, what IS Magic Lantern? What does it do? Skimming through the Redwoods on AutoPilot Asha

Magic Lantern take frames (and anims?) and compiles them into animations. It has a native DIFF format, that they claim will play anims with more consistant timing. You can also add sound and play your anims (with many different drivers and boards) from your hard drive.

I'll file that information away for future use (heh!) 🙂 Skimming through the Redwoods on AutoPilot Asha

MOREOVER, I discovered that the maker of ML came out with an UPDATED version. Unfortunately, I don't think it'll support DCTV, which is my next obsession to come. 🙂

Magic Lantern 2.0 does support DCTV, as did Vers. 1.0.

I'm going to have to look at my copy of Magic Latern again, I just don't recall seeing DCTV mentioned explicitly. I know it compiles individual frames from any Amiga format.

DCTV format is just a specially encoded 16-color IFF, and apparently Magic Lantern takes care to preserve the DCTV de-code "cookie" when it transforms to its own format. My hunch is the author figured out after the fact that it would work, which is why the manual is so short on describing this. The bigger question is whether one would see much an improvement running a DIFF over a DCTV image, since the latter is effectively pretty compressed already. I haven't run any tests, but if you create a DCTV animation in, say, Vista Pro, it'll fly along at a good clip, even on a 68000 machine, without ML. — from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, via Amiga AUTOPILOT v1.78 [the only way to fly the cyberscape]
