> I believe that the MAC is slowly headed he way of our own beloved AMIGA… This is an opinion I would like you to amplify with whatever hard facts you have, as I just plunked down a few G's on a Macintosh Performa 6115CD. Also, isn't the recent appearance of Apple clones a good sign for its longevity? I realize I am in an Amiga forum here, but I trust no one would begrudge me a little info on this. Sean, A lot of people have been saying that the Mac is dying for years, but I've been hearing from some friends in various areas of the computer industry say that Apple's market share is slipping as more people go over to PCs. Development is being done more for Windows programs than for Mac programs. With the clones, it can swing either way. Apple, being the company that they are, allowed for clones too late to make much good IMHO. The fact that clones are now being able to be made can be good for end-users, but they are still stuck to Apple for the MacOS and the Mac ROMS. Not too free for a clone-based market. But these are what I've heard and my own personal opinions. // Christian – AP 1.80 \X/ Only Amiga Makes It Possible

Very Good Sean, don't fall for that all trick. There are a lot of non Amiga users in here that are trying to get us to buy there computers. I fell for that trick. I got a mac for X-mas for myself and find myself using this old amiga 500 more than my Mac. It sit there in my room from weeks without powering it on. What is speed in a car if you can not steer it. The Amiga may be slow to today standard but she turns on the dime. Hang in there, Amiga will come out of this mess soon. There are million of use and the others computer company will try anything for you to but there system. Have you wondered why it taking so long for this mess to iron out? Rent the movie TUCKER. Its about a 1940 car that was ahead of its time and the other car company derail it before it got out into the market. Now replace that car with a 1990's Amiga. Do I have to spell it. I hope that someone out there can see the writing on the wall. From Serafin Tirado of the boogie down BRONX.

Amen, I will hang on to my A2000 until it wears out, and then I'll revive it. I use it more than my 486DX2/66 and she still handles like a lady. …Via autopilot and GVP 040/33. // …Only Amiga makes it possible \\/

You keep on hanging to your A-2000. That is a very good machine. I am hang on to my A-500 and A-1000. I use them both for my Business in designing Kisok System. Oh by the way If any one out there knows what type of a Computer is in a Kisok in Penn Station in NYC I'll be very thankfull. Serafin Tirado From the Boogie Down BRONX Not on Auto-Pilot.

Its probably an alpha system or sgi or an indy if its really fast who knoews what they actually use cause a kiask computer can be anything as all they usually use is a pc with a modem or ethernet link to an internet html page

>>There are million of use and the others computer company will try >>anything for you to but there system. WOW!! What a fantasy!! As far as the computer industry was/is concerned, the Amiga was rendered irrelevant in 1988 by bonehead management from the comedy duo of Irv and Ali. A literature check will reveal the Amiga was barely ever mentioned after 1988 in any mainstream publication, and only in conjunction with NewTek in the more specialized video professional magazines. Basically, other platform users feel Amigans are loud-mouthed, bitching cheapskates (and proud of it!) and the other computer companies could care less about us. Your opinion of our importance to them is amusing but grossly inaccurate. Our numbers and buying power would not even warrant a part-time secretary to carry on this "propoganda campaign". Time to wake up and smell the coffee, dude! As far as the state of general purpose computing is concerned, we don't count. wmc – via Autopilot!

(Amiga Was Rendered Irrelevant.) If it wasn't for the Amiga the other platform would of been have in selling Computer with 16 colur Graphic cards. I can see it now. A 486 with only 16 colors. But you have Small companys like commodore that puts out a A500 with 4000 color the big boys has to speed up and put us down for there computer to shine. Look like Window 95 looks like and acts like Amiga Work bench 2.1 or 3.1. Speed is not every thing. Have you tryed D-paint on a 486, well it's slow as the IRS giving out refunds. My Old A500 runs D-paint faster. Had Fun in IBM bashing, Let's do it again. The real fun come when you go into there forum. Ther not to Friendly. Serafin Tirado From the Boogie Down BRONX. a pentium 90 is better than any amiga anyday at everthing even using msdos and windows and a 16bit sound card
#46624From: GaryApr 26, 1995 8:29 PM
You never used an Amiga have you? I have used PC's and Mac's and can't beleive people pay money for such a hard system to use. Considering that my 4000 is clocked at 25 and not 90 like your Pentium and can move graphics just as fast,It would be nice to see my outdated, slow clocked, poorly designed( memory wise) with a 68060 clocked at 1/2 your speed with direct access to memory with it's built in sound and graphics sitting next to your pentium with its video card and sound card running 1 program, at the same time mine runs as many as I have memory for. // Gary B. Hey Chris, Do you know anything about this "Virtual World" thats supposed to be in Ventura. I heard and ad for it on the radio once but didn't catch the location. Never heard anymore about it, but I'm kinda interested in checking it out if it still exists. wmc – via Autopilot!

Wayne, Virtual World? I've never heard of that, but I just moved here last December. Anyways, the only virtual things that I've heard about is the LazerStar game arena in Oxnard, just of the 101. // Christian – AP 1.80 \X/ Only Amiga Makes It Possible

i do own a 1200 but still think a p90 is still better i saw the a4000 a3000 inaction at thelast nyc commodore show.the 3000 amazed me more than the 4000 did.

I don't know much about Pentiums, but at work I use a 486DX-2 66MHz machine with CD-ROM and 16M RAM. Today I stayed a bit late trying a CD of game demos and shareware given away with a magazine. Hardly anything on it would work. A lot of the software complained I didn't have enought memory, OK I have 16MBytes but just loading the drivers for the CD drive takes too much of the magic first 640k that the programs insist on using. Some of it just crashed, maybe for the same reason, who knows. I have found my Amiga much more reliable and easy to use than this. Peter Wade Autopiloting from London, England
#46700From: LEPIDO R VARGASApr 29, 1995 10:28 PM
my guess you don't have the persevearance of using 386max.if memory is such a problem, why not get pcdos version 7 it uses less than msdos6.22,and includes better programs
#46714From: Peter WadeApr 30, 1995 2:13 PM
Maybe if I had one of these machines at home I would be able to sort out the problems. It isn't really practical to experiment with memory managers or different OS versions on the machine at work since if anything goes wrong our PC support section will blame it all on the 'not company standard' stuff, and I have enough problems with the network already. Apple cloning: Apple waited 2 years too long for this to really help much. Talligent: Too little too late; NT has rendered a serious market for this moot. It will be a neat technical acheivment and curiosity, but its market window has closed. Apple developer flight. Even the venerable Avid media composer is now available for Windows, not to mention photo shop, a couple of the few compelling applications that would make one buy a Mac (remember, its not the machine that counts, its what you can do with it). Microsloth has targetted the Mac and SGI to be killed in the video/multi-media arena as witnessed by its recent acquisition of soft image, liasons with Hollywood, buy-in with Dreamworks, etc. Since they have the resources to kill the government in an anti trust suite, they will be able to eat Apple for desert whenever they are ready (and it looks like they are getting hungry). Apple's world-wide market share has fallen to around 7.5%. They are, in a way, admitting defeat and fighting to survive by providing Windows and NT compatibility solutions with some of the machines they sell. But, don't worry about your investment. Apple and developers will probably be around for another 7 -10 years. wmc – via Autopilot!

Thanks for the Big Picture, Wayne. Fortunately, the Mac investment was made with home applications exclusively in mind ( Quicken for our financial management, entertainment & education software for the kids.) I have no need of it in any of the larger DTP or DTV arenas. I did, however, order Light Rom and the Texture Gallery, with the idea of using the Mac's CD to give me access to these materials. I have to add as an aside, and I know this will rankle a few reading this here, that when I started exploring the Mac system (ver 7.1 I think) and the bundled programs that came with it, I was majorly impressed with how much THOUGHT and DEVELOPMENT was focussed into making things easy for the first time user! The online help, going beyond little hypertext pop-up explanations, but actually leading you through interactive demonstrations, was like a refreshing massage. I remember using a third party program for the Amiga called DeluxeHelp for DPaint, which was a series of real-time mouse recorded tutorials. It did its demonstration, and then it would leave you in Dpaint to try what you just saw. But the INTERACTIVE help system I encountered in the Mac is exactly the kind of bridge needed to bring non-computer users into computerland. My reaction to it is probably an accumulative effect as well, with the last several months with my treasured Amiga being about harddrive crashes, dwindling support, and the really annoying trickle of thalimide baby software like PageStream 3… Sean Hannon Ad Rats – Stamford, CT

What can I say about tutorials other than I can tek them or leave them. It's just a waste of HD space. …Via autopilot and GVP 040/33. // …Only Amiga makes it possible \\/

Sean, Your right about the ease of use thing – in fact they made is so easy to use that most Mac Heads don't even know about underlying things like forks, dos copy, and some other stuff I ran into just trying to get stuff back and forth from Amiga to Mac. That's not a bad point, mind you, except if you ar trying to move material between macs and anything else. wmc – via Autopilot!
