The following are some interesting facts I came accross in my research concerning desktop video (just hype or reality)? "By almost any measure, desktop-video production is becoming a big business. Sales of "video servers" incorporating full motion video – are growing at high velocity speed, with forecasts calling for sales to rise from $16 million last year to $296 million in 1995 and to $5.2 billion in 1997, reports Dataquest Inc., San Jose, CA. (Dec. 1994) A fine example is American Airlines, the Dallas based carrier with more than 60,000 PCs installed worldwide, PC-based video is being used for training at the company's Learning Center. By incorporating full motion video and audio into training applications on PCs, the airline is able to give crews "hands-on" instruction. The following is a breakdown of how A/V technology fits into large Corporations : How Many Companies Use Audio Cards? (%) Fortune 1000 Fortune Industrial 500 60% Fortune Service 500 63% Fortune 1000 Average 61% D & B Companies Less than $12.5M in Sales 23% $12.5M – 30M In Sales 23% More Than $30M In Sales 46% D&B Average 33% **************************************************************** How Many Companies Use Video Capture Cards? (December 5, 1994) The desktop video industry has become large enough to warrent two special AT&T Multimedia Lab dedicated to analyzing new video/audio applications. Gee, all we need now is an infastructure which makes it easier and faster to send graphics, video etc. Hope someone finds the data interesting, I do! Sincerely, Dean
