Actually the ONLY 3D effects are possible with the upcoming Pinnacle Board

You're correct. I had thought this was one of the things the 8000 had that the
1000 did not (I have a 1000).
At NAB I saw the Pinnacle demo on a 1000 though, and it is HOT! 🙂

We use both the 1000 & 8000. If you upgraded the audio to Protools 4 channel
audio,
you have the equivalent of an 8000, (and 50k in your pocket!).
Oh ya…Avid will only enable 8 layers of video on the 1000 as you know,
but through nesting tracks you can easily go beyond the 24 layers of an 8000.
And the lower reolutions are diabled as well.
(the 1000 is the smart buy! 🙂
AVR 27 is an video upgrade resolution option for either system.
(We currently don't use it…Component Inputed AVR 26 is just fine thankyou.)

Q. How did the interface access through media composer?..(effects pallet, etc)
I've heard alot of positive from pinnacle users on the PC side, although I'm
wary of adding any extra tasks to our quadra 950 Mac platform.

Yes, the only evidence of the Pinnacle that I saw (other than a big box sitting
beside the computer) was extra effects in the effects palette — all of which
were real-time.

Won't work with a 950. Requires a PowerMac (non-PCI).

Incorrect, The Turbo Cube from Imix (and possibly the "regular" Cube) will
have a optional built in realtime 3D effects unit. And supposedly better
integration than Avid's.

I was referring only to the Avid Media Composer, although a Cube editor POV is
always welcome!

not sure on the storage/gig. they sell the arrays in 1hr video/2hr audio, not
sure on the cost. sorry.

Current cost for one ImMix storage module is $5800. Includes 2 4gigs for 1 hr.
of video and I believe still 500mb for 1 hr. of audio. I am a VideoCube owner.
My standard VideoCube looks good, I use it every day for local broadcast work.
The new TurboCube looks dynamite, certainly up there with Digital Betam (in my
humble opinion).
