Also, if you want any degree of edit control (which you'll need for 3/4", since I don't think any models come w/flying erase heads), you'll have to get a true industrial level S-VHS edit deck and an editing 3/4" deck, along w/a industrial level controller (don't have numbers offhand, but each is a couple thousand–used). Your assumption is incorrect. 3/4" decks have had flying erase heads for 10 -15 years or more. ell, as someone who's tried it both ways–while 3/4" is preferable because you can get more composite info on the tape, you'll also need a time base corrector/digital frame buffer to get S-VHS quality This statement is also not true since every s-vhs system also has composite outs. These outputs are the same quality as transcoding S-VHS- composite thru an external TBC. Regrds Keith

Keith: >Your assumption is incorrect. 3/4" decks have had flying erase heads for 10 -15 years or more.< Really? All the ones *I've* ever dealt w/didn't–of course, that was mostly at educational institutions & nonprofit organizations, so they didn't tend to have the most up-to-date equipment… >This statement is also not true since every s-vhs system also has composite outs. These outputs are the same quality as transcoding S-VHS- composite thru an external TBC.< I'm aware of the composite outputs on S-VHS machines–but frankly, every time I've dubbed an S-VHS tape using the composite outlets to a composite VCR (3/4" or VHS), the results have been, well, unfortunate (color shifts all over creation, mushy image quality, etc.). OTOH, dubbing via a TBC or digital buffer has always given me good results… Anyway, that's always been my experience, Tim

Keith: >3/4" decks have had flying erase heads for 10 -15 years or more.< Further to this post, which 3/4" decks are currently available which have it? I'd be interested in purchasing one for my job, Best, Tim
