Hi Brian! [a prelude: Lemme say, straight off, I am an ADESK supporter and have been using ADESK products for years, so I am not bashing you people here at all.] [several intro's] [1] I am an Animator Pro user who ordered Animator Studio then, before it shipped, started reading messages saying that it just, flat out, would not run under Windows 95. I asked my dealer to hold the order and to check out this claim of non-compatibility. She came back with a very vague "party line" <g> type of comment that it was a Windows 3.1 application. I canceled my order pending more info because I _only_ run Windows 95 now. [an aside: I run 3DS from Windows 95 and/or DOS 7 _all_ the time, w/o problems (mostly <g>)] [2] I also read a reply to a message that you apparently sent another user but I missed, that the $295 migration program to AS is a limited time deal. My questions are: 1) How long will this "deal" last? And, if I order it but can't use it until you upgrade it to at least WIN32S, which oughta run w/ W95 will I have yet another upgrade fee… just to be able to use for the first time… 6 or 8 months from now?!? 2) And, (please give a straight answer here if at all "possible") will it run _at all_ under W95, or is it completely out of the question? There are 400,000 of use beta/preview users out here _right now_ and inquiring minds wanna know. So far I haven't found any W3.1 programs that won't run under W95 so I am inclined to think that it _will_ run. But, on the outside chance that it simply won't run, I really have better things to do w/ my $295 over the next 1/2 to 3/4 of a year (esp. if we get clipped for more upgrade fees later on). If I buy it but can't make it run, can I return it, only to turn around and buy the upgrade later on? I am inclined to think that returning it would tick-off my dealer, but… Please give me some guidance with this issue. [commentary, stepping up to the podium] I have to say that, IMHO, this has been a very big mistake on ADESK's part. All "good" w3.1 products now use WIN32S and, for the life of me, I can't figure out why y'all would release a "cutting edge" product that uses out-of-date 16 bit technology. Ernie, I have forwarded your message to the AASTUDIO product manager as well. Here are some responses: <<[1] I am an Animator Pro user who ordered Animator Studio then, before it shipped, started reading messages saying that it just, flat out, would not run under Windows 95.>> This is correct, to the best of our (product support's) knowledge. <<[2] I also read a reply to a message that you apparently sent another user but I missed, that the $295 migration program to AS is a limited time deal>> No. That is the standard upgrade from Animator Pro. It will not expire. The limited time deal was if you had purchased Animator Pro after we officially announced Animator Studio, you got an even better price (I think $150.). <<nd, if I order it but can't use it until you upgrade it to at least WIN32S, which oughta run w/ W95>> I don't know how the upgrade from AASTUDIO to a newer version of AASTUDIO will happen. I don't have any information on future releases of the product. Sorry. << 2) And, (please give a straight answer here if at all "possible") will it run _at all_ under W95, or is it completely out of the question?>> The straight answer is…I don't think so. (I know, that doesn't sound very straight.) The bottom line is, we (Prod Supp) haven't tested WIN95. It is an unsupported platform. That means the information about running AASTUDIO with WIN95 comes from other users like yourself. All those users have said they can't get it to work. <<Please give me some guidance with this issue.>> Ah Grasshopper, you seek knowledge and guidance. I just don't have enough information myself to guide you. << I have to say that, IMHO, this has been a very big mistake on ADESK's part. All "good" w3.1 products now use WIN32S and, for the life of me, I can't figure out why y'all would release a "cutting edge" product that uses out-of-date 16 bit technology.>> I have forwarded this statement (and others like it) to the product manager. << No hard feelings intended,>> None taken, we always appreciate constructive criticism. -Brian

> I have forwarded your message to the AASTUDIO product manager as well. Thanks for the swift reply and the info in it. I cancelled my order for AS and will wait until it gets 32 bit support. My gut tells me I won't have wait _too_ very long. After all, W95 will become the valid platform on around (fingers crossed) Aug 26th or so. BTW I suppose that AAS will run OK if a made a dual boot to Dos 6.2 and Win 3.1 ? Any problems reported on that (temporary) configuration ? Thanks, Pierre

I haven't heard about any problems with a dual boot configuration. Anyone else? -b
