I had *No news* fm your pals about the money that was perceived fm my Visa card
account few months ago (cf "Letter fm France" thread); nor did I get any free
software (promised on the phone by Peter)…
Well, France is bloody far I suppose!!!
Anyway, it's not the purpose of my message. Here is the point: could you be
kind enough to tell me the *actual* procedure for downloadind Photomatic fm
your Daystar WWW site?
I went there, filled the submission form, send it… and nothing seemed to
happen, but the return of my message to my own e-mailbox!!!
Sure I did something wrong. I recon I'm not too familiar with Netscape yet…
But still, Help me please! 😉 Charles
PS: Should I wait till it gets possible to exchange the 66Mhz cpu of my PPro
601 board for a 100Mhz one, or is this definitely unlikely to ever happen ( due
to the fact that the 100Mhz boards don't look quite like the 66/80Mhz ones) and
then I'd be better off sticking to this cpu and getting the 1Meg cache (offered
since) right away ?
What about the famous Daystar Upgrade Policy in my case ? 🙂
PPS: (this is becoming too long a message, you're right Greg) Another thing: I
have recently upgraded to Sytem 7.5.1 etc… and I wondered if there is an
*official* way of doing so with my board (I have a Quadra 700 230/20Mo on
motherbaord + 32Mo on PPro 601).
I actually managed to succeed installing everything, but maybe installing the
system on Power cpu and then re-installing it while on 68040 cpu doesn't get
you the lightest system there is… What do you recommand as THE authorized way
?
(BTW easy install procedure didn't seem enough to be able to switch back to
68040)

#1: You should use a browser such as Mosaic 2.0 or better, or Netscape 1.1 or
better. If you are, things should be hunky-dory.
#2: Go to the Product Center, click on "get photomatic 2.0 for FREE!"
#3: Complete the electronic registration form.
#4: You will be presented with a screen that thanks you, gives you a serial
number, and offers you a link to click on to ftp PhotoMatic 2.0.
#5: Your browser begins the ftp once you click on the link. PhotoMatic comes
to your machine, and assuming your browser is set up correctly, un-binhexed
self extracting archive. Where it lands on your hard disk depends on your
browser prefs.

The 100 MHz board is now shipping. It differs from the 66 and 80 MHz PowerPros
in that it exclusively uses the host Mac's system board memory. It also
includes the 1 MB cache. The upgrade price from your 66 MHz PowerPro to the 100
MHz version is US $816 plus shipping.

You should select Custom Installation and install the system for any Macintosh.
This method provides the system resources for booting as a PowerPC or 68040
Mac. All you need to add is the PowerPro CDEV (currently v1.2). Run a "clean
installtion, ie-fresh system folder. Do this by pressing the COMMAND-SHIFT-K
keys when in the initial installation window. This creates a fresh system
folder. You will need to move your inits, extensions, prefs, fonts etc
afterwards.
