#A2000 for sale
15 messages in this thread
I have the following for sale:
A2000, only about 1 1/2 yrs old
2 3.5" floppy drives
ROM switcher board with both 1.3 & 2.04 Roms installed &
software
A2091 HD controller card with a 50 Meg HD and 2 megs of RAM on
the board for a total of 3 Megs
A2630? Commodore "flicker fixer"
Panasync multisync monitor
This includes quite a bit of software (mostley PD). My dealer told me that
it was worth $1800.00. Most of the people that have responded have said it
was to high but I noticed that the new price list from Commodore has listed
a base A2000 (educational discount !!) is selling for $1231.00 with a 1084s
monitor. Going from that, mine has the following at what I would guess a
price would be:
extra floppy – $50
A2091 Controller, HD, and RAM – $400-500
Rom Switcher & 2.04 upgrade kit – $100
Flicker Fixer – $250
Panasync 1381 multisync monitor – $350
That's $1100+ in extras (was I conservative enough?)
I'd think that it would be worth $1700.00 including shipping! How about a
reasonable offer ?!?!.
Matt
Problem is, you can get an A3000 with everything your A2000 has, including
monitor and a 32 bit bus and Zorro III slots etc. for $1,800 Edu
with CBM's extended rebate. and a used A3000 can be had for $1,500.
preation on computer hardware is horrid!! I paid $575 for my a-Max II
system im selling, and will be lucky to get 50% of that cost back now.
Prices on computer hardware seem to drop an adverage of 20-40% per year in
vaule! depending on what it is.
A friend of mine just bought a brand new 40 mhz 386DX system with SVGA 4
megs of ram, SVGA monitor, 40 meg hard drive mouse and HD floppy drive all
in a mini tower case for $1,100!!!!! Another friend of mine paid over
$3000 for that exact same system a year ago, so it could be worse, we could
live in the MS-DOS world.
Id say your system will sell for around $1200-$1500 if you are lucky!
Tim
Thanks for the info.
I was told that the rebate program was over and an A3000 (without monitor
and 1.3 ROMs) was currently priced at $2183.00 (educational).
Matt
my dealer sells the A3000-25/50 w/ 2meg ram & Amigavision (and 2.04) for
$2229.00

…..from the north coast
Really? Wow the local dealers here are still selling them for $1898.00
including monitor. Could be there still have a left over supply of them
that they ordered under the rebate or something. I did just see a used
A3000 25/50 on
the internet go for $1500, this did not include a monitor.
Tim,
Mathew's A2000 system includes a second floppy drive, a ROM board and 1.3
and 2.04 ROMs, a PanaSync monitor, and software. So he really is sellling
more than what you'd get with an A3000. So I was somewhat surprised to see
your message to him that he was overcharging and then you suggested that he
could get $1,500 if he was lucky.
Well, his "asking" price was only $1,700 and that included shipping. It
seems reasonable that he would indeed accept $1,500 for it, since he asked
for reasonable offers on his system.
By all means, leave a message if you think someone is overcharging. They
might not be aware of the current prices, plus you will alert the other
Forum members of the current prices before they buy. However, I don't quite
understand why you would leave a message that he was overcharging and then
suggest what amount he might get for his system, when basically that is
what he was already charging for his system. As I'm sure you're aware, if
you want $1,500 you don't advertise it for $1,500 and then ask for offers.
So, Mathew's "asking" price was close to a selling price of your suggested
price of $1,500.
II guess what I'm saying is that the first part of your message looked
like you were telling Mathew that he was charging too much and then in the
second part of your message, you basically agreed with his price.

Thanks Dominick!
I must admit that I'm pretty confused about the responses I've seen for my
posting and other sellers. It seems that people are quiet zelous about
Amigas (as I am) and will bash any other computer, claiming how useless
they are, but say your selling an Amiga and it instantly becomes garbage to
be given away.
Someone suggested that I could only get half what I paid 18 months ago and
at $1500, I've gone below that. I'm not stupid. I know that electronic
equipment drops dramatically in resale.
When Educational pricing becomes the standard for pricing, no definitive
dealer price can be found, and apples are compared to oranges, it hurts us
all (the Amiga community).
You're right, I would welcome input about prices especially from people who
are INTERESTED in BUYING. I tried to find a fair price by asking local
dealers and watching this forum. I would take $1500 and consider $1400 w/o
shipping.
Matt
The $1400-1500 range would be perfectly reasonable for your machine.
One thing to remember is that while advertising on Compuserve will get you
the best response, it will not usually get you the best price. For a
variety of reasons, new and used computers are less expensive along the
coasts of the US than in the middle. Since most CIS users are coastal (and
due to the laws of economics) CIS prices tend to fall at the low end.
If you know of a big Amiga BBS in Missouri or something, advertise stuff
there, and I bet you'll get a better price – IF you can sell it at all. The
advantage of CIS is a massive audience, not price point.
But you seem to be asking a fair price for your computer.
Without reference to the merits of your offer, saying the Amiga is better
than other machines is one thing. Saying a used Amiga is worth a certain
amount is quite another. Used MSDOS machines go cheap, too. If you want a
comparison, go over to the Tandy M-100 sig some time and read their
classifieds. We're talking about people who think that a machine that has
less power than some calculators walks on water. It clearly trades largely
on machine charisma, if there is such a thing. Even so, people who really
try to romance a sale to get an out-of-line price get hooted down fast.
Most people who frequent the classified sections are bottom trollers like
myself who would gladly pay rock-bottom price to pick up something they
can't justify buying even at mail order prices. If this is a revelation,
sorry for the dose of reality.
Mike
Matt,
Personally, I felt you were offering a very good price. On occasion, I
have left messages to someone, even if I was not interested in buying, when
their advertised price was HIGHER than a price I saw for the product NEW.
Why would anyone want to buy something used, without a warranty, when they
could get it new for less money? That wasn't the case with you.
Also, the gentleman who wrote to you said he could get the EXACT same
system in a new A3000, but it wasn't the exact same. You were offering
extras that are not included in a stock A3000 price. Furthermore, not
everyone considers the A3000 better than the A2000. With the 2000, you get
an extra slot, easier expandability, and Toaster compatibility. If you
wanted to take the time and sell each item separately, you could even get
more than $1,500 for it. I mean do people expect you to give it away?
Good luck selling your system.

As one of the ruder members of this forum, I always send a message to
someone if I think their price is out of line; I have also gotten a message
when I posted something with a price that was way out of line (no intent to
deceive on my end – the market had changed drastically and I hadn't been
paying attention, so I asked $200 for a $100 item…)
It *is* amusing to see posts from people trying to sell their old A1000s
for hundreds and hundreds of dollars…and the shocked response when they
get offers of $75 + shipping.
Mat,
I think you price seem fair although Amiga prices have dropped since
Jan. (and Commodore's stupid post Christmas increase). Here in NYC a new
2000 from a dealer goes for $949 and $200 for a 1084s if purchased at the
same time. The only prices I think that are a ways off are:
2630 enhancer (2320 is C's 68020 accelarator) $250 ($235 new) $180
2091 package (I don't what type of drive but drive prices have fallen
quite a bit and I have sold a numbe of drives on CIS so I think a 50 meg
will net about $150-170 so with 2 meg memory(? speed) $400-500 $300
I am not familiar with the Panasonic monitor but thier new 1382 goes for
$299 new (Mail order) so $250 would be good.
a plain Ver 6.2 amiga $750 tops so your still offering a good deal on the
package add in 10-15% for shipping and extra insurance UPS ground
I'm not trying to hurt your sale just giving a little of my experience 😉

Tom,
I believe the A2620 is CBM's 68020 accelerator, not the 2320.
Dom Fontana
Dom,
Your right, Mat wrote the enhancer as a 2630 and I wrote the reply on
paper correctly but then I reversed the order in the numbers when I typed
the reply! :} (confused fingers)

Personally, when I'm buying a used system, I do not allow much for software
that comes with it. Most often, for most people, a lot of that software
you are not going to use. Secondly some vendors do not allow transfer of
the liscence, which means that you are cut off from the upgrade path. And
at the very worst illegally using it.
When one looks at what used software often brings, in the context of adding
value to a machine, if it is not what you would go out and BUY, then there
is not a lot of added value. – Alex
