Paul, I finally figured out _how_ to delete the Jupiter box from my quick access menu screen from within NDW (Norton's Desktop for Windows). I could, as I mentioned in an earlier message, get rid of the icon in the box by pressing the DELETE key, but not the box. Well, all I had to do was go to FILE… then DELETE… and the box disappeared. There should be a way that the box isn't installed at all when CDPlayer is setup. In any event, it's gone (and good 'riddence ;-)). Is CDPlayer suppose to play in the background? Or is it a TSR in the sense that you can call it up anytime you want? The reason I ask is because I had it playing in the background today while writing an ASCII text file. On about the 8th song (of 14) it played it over over and over. Any idea what caused that? I was using the EDIT feature of another shareware program called LIST by Vernon Buerg (one of the sysops over on IBMSYS… the IBM Forum). Suggestions: 1.- Clear the screen when CDPLAYER is typed at the DOS Prompt… not displayed the intro, etc., over_ whatever was there before you call it up. It's a little messy on the screen… and distracting to say the least. 2.- Make CDP a _flat_ registration fee for USA users. Some users may think you're playing a weak dollar game. Why not say 30 dollars regardless of whether the dollar is up or down that particular day? 3.- Also: Perhaps an icon a bit more attractive? On the other hand, maybe NDW gave CDP the icon I'm looking at. What is the CDP icon suppose to be? I can't for the life of me feature out what this one is. 🙂 -=Doyle=-

Thanks for your continued interest. 1) CDPlayer for windows has a universal install program for the creation of a directory, copying of the files and creation of a program group. It is not necessary to use this program and the documentation gives details of how to install it manually, in which case you can add it to whichever box is required. 2) The icon contained within CDPlayer is a picture of a CD. If you are seeing anything else it is coming from NDT not CDPlayer. Under program manager you simply edit program item properties and select the program name for the icon source to use the icon from the program. I have no idea if NDT uses a different method. 3) CDTSR, a demo provided with CDPlayer, is a TSR playing handset. CDPlayer is not TSR. When you tell CDPlayer to play a disc it sends the instruction to the CDROM and monitors play progress. If you exit from CDPlayer, the drive continues to execute the instruction, but from that point on CDPlayer plays no part in events. If your disc entered into a repeat it is was either something to do with the program you were running or a fault on the drive – e.g dirt on the disc. 4) The reason for displaying CDPlayer over the screen was because we were thinking, at some stage, of making the whole program TSR. This would allow it to play custom programs and repeat plays in the background while other DOS applications were running. I am not sure there is a call for this, and If there is we would now probably add it to CDTSR. I will clear the background in the next release, thanks for pointing it out. 5) Re pricing, I am afraid this is not possible. We simply cannot accept payment in any form other than Sterling, as it costs between 7 and 10 UK pounds to clear each one – depending on the method of payment. How many US shareware

(continued) companies do you know that will accept payment in other currencies? It is simply not practical. As registrations increase in the US we will look into the possibility of appointing a UK agent. Paul

CD Player has been reviewed in our Newsletter and we will send you a copy in the next couple of days. I believe you may have had a registration from one of our members already. He was on the verge of purchasing a commercial program with less features at double the price and was pleased with the shareware version I sent him to have a look at. So I hope it goes from strength to strength. Kind Regards Paul (CD Rom User Group UK)

I assume this is directed at me. The name CD player is, I would have thought, so inherent in the nature of the product that the possibility of others using the description are quite likely! This is the first time I have heard of your company and the product (presumably you are not marketing it in the UK) and as no one has ever asked me if there is any connection between our organizations, or the products, I assume the names are not causing confusion. Our product is called CDPlayer, without a space, and as yours is called CD Player, with a space, I would not have thought there is a problem. When we were deciding on the name, we were advised that we would be able to register CDPlayer as a trade mark but that it would not be possible to claim a Trade Mark and register CD Player as that was a standard English description of the nature of the product. If you think there is a problem, please send me a copy of your literature and we can discuss it further. Jupiter Software 63 Parkside Wimbledon London SW19 5NL Paul Brace
