Toshiba 3401 Broken

I had *two* defective 3401 drives before I got a good one. Toshiba tech
support said "Disconnect the drive from everything but the power supply. Insert
caddy. If the caddy won't stay in, you have a broken latch and must return the
drive to your vendor for a replacement unit."

Thank for responding,
I turned off my machine overnight (normally it runs all the time) and the
drive worked fine when I started my system up the next day. So far the problem
has not returned but if it does I will try your suggestion if nothing else
works.

Pls. excuse me for jumping in here, but I also am having a problem w/ the
Toshiba 3401B — no problem w/ the caddy staying in, but the SCCI device driver
(Trantor for the PAS16) does not recognize that a CDROM dirve is there
(TSLCD.SYS reports "SCSI host adaptor detected at address 388h" – followed by a
looonnng pause -about 1 minute- then "No devices respond to this host adaptor")
— Any ideas would be most appreciated – bad SCSI cable, maybe?? Drive
DOA?? — As I say power is definitely there as caddy is drawn in w/ a
flashing busy light, and eject works fine. Have not changed drive factory
defaults (jumpers, termination resistors, etc.) Thanks for any feedback,

Termination resisters should be installed if the 3401 is the only device
attached to the PAS-16, try setting the address to 0. GO MEDIAVISION for Media
Vision tech support. Also make sure the cable is plugged in correctly. Cable
could be bad, PAS-16 could be bad, drive could be bad. Try borrowing some
components from a friend to isolate the problem.
