Gary,
On what basis do you assume that Supra have no people left who know what
an Amiga is? And why do you say that the Supra's are so bad?
I've got a rack of Modems at the office which I look after and the only
ones that I don't have problems with are (no not the Supra's we haven't
got any, they're prohibited from connection to the UK network) Hayes.
My Supra (which I haven't got at home if you're interested British Telecom
<G>) has been far more stable than the majority of the ones at work!
In fact, I've Cmailed Supra and they knew EXACTLY what settings to enter
into NCOMM – yes NCOMM, the AMiga Comms S/W to solve a problem, which was
my fault in the first place.
This is not a flaming, just an opinion 😉

Kevin,
I am glad to know someone has had some luck with Supra Customer Service.
Maybe after some of my calls and letters they changed things. The fact
being is that when I have called them I have got responses from "what is
an Amiga" to "I think someone here knows about those". This was about a
year or so ago.
There are a few reasons I have lost faith in the Supra modems. One
being that I have had to upgrade the roms so often and had to pay for each
revision. Secondly that it has problems connecting at 14.4 reliably when
my el-cheapo Infotels connect with no problem what so ever. The kicker
here is that I didn't know how bad it was unitl I got a Infotel from a
friend to use breifly. Now I am sticking with the Infotel brand. (Cheap
and reliable)
About the Hayes thing, I don't see anything great about them either,
especially thier price.

Gary,
I have a Supra 14.4, and Supra has been alot of help. When I wanted to
get my modem to do the silant answer mode they sent me a free Rom upgrade.
When that did not fix the problem they gave me a password to download a
upgrade to GPFAX from their BBS. I have nothing but great things to say
about Supra Customer Service.

Robert,
When I had a bad version of GPFax, Supra was of NO help to me.
Numberous pleas for help were met with form letter respnoses. Only Dr.
Perry offered to help me out. He sent me a replacement disk all the way
from Australia. Supra had such a "don't bother me I'm busy" attitude with
something so simple to resolve it just left a bad taste in my mouth….
As I have said previously, I hope they have changed things.

Gary,
I've always dealt with Supra through CIS as I'm in the UK and obviously I
was lucky to hit the "someone" who knows about the Amiga 🙂
As far as your ROM's are concerned, well some people are unlucky, others
are taken for a ride…
I've never had a problem with my Supra FaxModem V32Bis connecting at 14.4
to any of the on-line services I use, although it is more prone to
dropping the carrier on bad lines than any other I use.
You're not wrong about the Hayes modems, but they are the bench mark in
Modems so you usually compare things to them…
As and when CIS is u/g to 28.8k, I'll u/g my modem, perhaps I'll look at
the Infotels then (never heard of them before) but seeing as we've only
had a 14.4 node in London since March THIS YEAR, I think it might be a
while <g>
