Hi All! I need another suggestion. I need to take a string of text, slice it into little vertical pieces, then slide each vertical strip in horizontally from the right. I have done this with the string, one letter at a time and the effect is cool. But the client wants the letters sliced vertically so that instead of a, say, 30 character string, there are 100 little skinny strips. Is there an easy way to do this? I thought of booleaning the whole thing, but that would be extremely tedious. As you can imagine, this is a low budget titles effect. Oh yea, it also has to be rendered in 4Kx3K for film. Does anyone know if, at that high res, is anti-aliasing really necessary? It would obviously be much faster to render without anti-aliasing. Thanks for any input. One other thing, is this what the new SLICE IPAS is for? If so, I'll order it right away! Doug, I wouldn't be surprised if there was a type 1 font with the vertically sliced style you described. If you have Corel 3,4 or 5 you might look through the font sheet. Otherwise, I would slice up the polygons in the 2d shaper using segment/refine before lofting.

Doug, try booleaning the text while you are still in the *2D Shaper*. This will be much faster, and you could then loft all your new "strip text pieces" in one fell swoop. You could even set up your text with a bunch of quads for booleaning, and just go down the row. Should be pretty fast, I'd guess (hope?). Although I've never rendered at that high res for film, I can't imagine rendering *anything* final without anti-aliasing. Hope this helps, -Alan

I suspect you want [A] thin sliced letters such that when they are at rest at the end they form solid, completely formed letters. ? Or do you want [B] the final letters to be a sliced font with thin slices separated by space? Just for fun, I tried to slice letters, two ways. (Assuming option [A] above, you have to boolean two sets of letters, each with alternating rectangles, then combine.) For booleaning after lofting, I made three letters, snap/created a bunch of thin boxes, attached them all into one obj., tessellated with OPTIMIZE, and boolean/subtracted the whole mess. I took a while, but worked OK. Alan's 2d shaper/booleaning worked quicker. I snap/made a bunch of quads, subtracted one at a time, then lofted. The only catch here is for letters made of more than one poly, like "o", which take a little extra effort. JKJ

Yes, I need them to look like single letters when done. I thought of the boolean approach, etc., but that is too tedious for this little titling job. Thaks for the input. How about having multiple identical letters comming in out of phase from the right? For example, bring in five "A"s at slightly different times (and/or trajectories) to merge into one at the end. Each could be a different color, perhaps transparent. Hey, I might try that myself! JKJ
