#Lofting 3D path /mapping

I'm doing an animation involving water type pipes that twist around in 3D. I've made several 2d paths, and "connected" (visually) them together, but I need the pipes to heat up (animated), going from blue to red in a certain area. I believe there is a way to make a 3d path for lofting, but I can't find it. Also, once I get a 3D path, how can I get the mapping right? Should I do it through the lofter, or some sort of mapping in the 3D editor? One part is squiggly like an air conditioner coil, and the color should wrap around the pipe. Thanks. JNJ

John, << heat up (animated), going from blue to red in a certain area. >> how about material morphing? << I believe there is a way to make a 3d path for lofting, but I can't find it.>> Make the path in the lofter and then in the keyframer Paths/Get Path/Lofter. jonas[adesk]

<< heat up (animated), going from blue to red in a certain area. >> >how about material morphing? Yes, but how do I apply it? In the lofter? << I believe there is a way to make a 3d path for lofting, but I can't find it.>> Make the path in the lofter and then in the keyframer Paths/Get Path/Lofter. I'll look into this. Thanks. I need the path for lofting, not as a camera/object path. I'm not sure if you understood this, or if I didn't look in the keyframer for making a path for lofting. JNJ

>how about material morphing? it took me a sec.. yes. I'll look into it. thanks.

<< I believe there is a way to make a 3d path for lofting, but I can't find it. >> You can start with the default path types or import a 2D path from the Shaper – either way, once in the Lofter, you can shape into a 3D path with Move Vertex, etc.. << Also, once I get a 3D path, how can I get the mapping right? Should I do it through the lofter, or some sort of mapping in the 3D editor? One part is squiggly like an air conditioner coil, and the color should wrap around the pipe. >> The only way to do this is by using lofted coordinates, such as the stripes on a barber pole, candy cane, etc.. From the mapping parameters dialog, you have complete control of the mapping after lofted coord's are applied. BILL

John, >area. I believe there is a way to make a 3d path for lofting, but I can't >find it. There is a possibility to view your 3D Editor scene in the lofter. This option is somewhere in the geometry (?) menu. I haven't my 3DS computer here, so I can't write you exactly where is this option. But I used this method without problem. Just make some path in shaper, get path to lofter, display 3D scene and move vertices on the path. PavelK
