#Johnny Mnemonic

I just got back from seeing the flic and I noticed Braid had a credit in there.
Which part did they work on?
And how come Alias and SGI got a credit and 3ds didn't?
Braid did the dream sequence at the end, which is 90% Alias with some
3DS thrown in. Alias and SGI got a credit because the film was
produced with Canadian money, and Alias is a Canadian company. There
were some interesting politics relating to this… a very convoluted
story.

Could this account for Newark looking so Torontoesque?
I think the credits said Montreal. I've never been to Newark, but I
spent an evening across the river from NY city in New Jersey about a
year ago and I have to say Tijuana looked cleaner and in better
condition. We were walking along an overpass and came to this gaping
hole in the sidewalk with rebar sticking out of it. No signs or any
warning it was there. We only spotted it because there was some light
coming up from underneath. I know not all of NJ is like this, but
sheesh.
Even Newark isn't all bad, Branch Brook Park in full bloom is nice but
the town needs some serious help. There are enough nice parts of
Jersey to keep the pits like Newark in check.
The model-work in the film (Newark skyline, etc) was pretty pitiful.
That must've been the lowest point in the budget.

I agee. To be honest, I first thought that the 'model' look was
intentional but quickly realized that it was an effect that failed.
Yost:
I had taped X-Files last week, and a commercial for the movie was
taped as well. I was watching it, and thought I saw something
familiar, so I backed up the video tape very slowly, and yup, an
Autodesk logo flies out of this tube. The logo was up for only 1/4
second or so, but I knew I saw something, I just didn't know what.
Weird, eh? Maybe subliminal (bundle Smacker with 3ds) advertising works.

Good catch. That was one of the _two_ Autodesk logos in JohnnyM.
There's another one (in the first shot) that you can scan for when
you get our demo reel this summer. If you happen by a poster for the
film, you'll be able to find it there too. (note that SGI's logo is
not in the film anywhere 😉

I was wondering the same thing. 3DS gets its big debue and folks will
drive home thinking, "boy, that SGI work was great stuff!"
Fortunately, Sony Pictures got big letters for the effects work, so
they'll keep the story balanced (I hope).

Simple politics. Sony didn't need any freebies to get the job done, so there
was no tit-for-tat going on.
