Yes I do have the latest drivers Ver 2.38 and I agree, of course, standard VGA is not practical to work in. Thanks Cyrus

Re flipper problems:- After some considerable trial and error, this is what I have discovered. If I use MSVIDEO.DLL file dated 9/2/94 – I get the flipper errors and GPF's etc If I use MSVIDEO.DLL file dated 11/19/93 – It's OK !! (I found a copy of this older version in the GRAPHIC WORKSHOP SOFTWARE) Presumably, the later version of MSVIDEO.DLL is supposed to work better than the older version. Do you happen to know in what areas it has improved ? As far as using Animator Studio is concerned, am I going to find in some other part of the program that I really needed the later version of MSVIDEO.DLL ? Thanks Cyrus cc Nick

Cyrus, That''s a interesting situation you have there. It's possible that later versions of MS Video for Windows are not compatible with certain graphics cards. To be sure of this, you might want to use the later version and try playing back .AVI files in the Media Player or Animator Player. If you get GPFs then, we've found the culprit. As far as using the earlier version of MSVIDEO with Animator Studio, the only benefit I was aware of were some speed increases. Other than that, you should be OK. If you notice any glitches, let us know. Thanks for your patience throughout this whole thing! Jh

Playing back AVI's through both versions works OK. As far as you are aware, is the 9/2/94 version of MSVIDEO.DLL the latest ? Thanks Cyrus

" is the 9/2/94 version of MSVIDEO.DLL the latest?" I don't think so. Video for Windows 1.1e has a more recent file (3/16/95). But the 9/2/94 version is the one we install and therefore should be compatible. I know that QA is looking at your problem – you're right, the '93 version should be the one that would more likely have problems.

At last – a solution…. Thanks to a suggestion by NUMBER9 tech. support, I changed the line DCI=On to DCI=Off in the windows system.ini I additionally, loaded ver 1.1e ard (File is under the Imagine LIbrary called VFW11e.exe) That did it! Now to all the other GPFs I am getting……. Best wishes

Cyrus, Sugggestions: Be sure you have a large swap file configured. Also quit the program frequently to improve performance. Check the temp setting from dos. set temp = whatever directory should have1,2244 (X) Jeremy, >> #9 GXE Pro fails to work properly with Animator Studio resulting in a GPF immediatly upon starting the program. Not always so… I've been in touch with Cyrus, and as his second note mentions, it appears to have to do with the Video for Windows driver. I'm using the #9GXE64Pro with no problems with AniStudio at all. But I'm using MSVIDEO.DLL dated 3/31/95. John

Thanks for your suggestions. I have 56 MB RAM and a 46 MB swap file – is that adequate ? It is said that the swap file should be 3X the amount of RAM but when the RAM is this high, does the same rule of thumb apply ? Best wishes Cyrus

Yep, same rule, In fact it depends more on how big is your animation. Tip: Don't do long sequences if you can avoid them. Try to work in 150 frames or less, rather than 500 or more. Also, after you save, quit and re-enter. Performance should improve. –marK
