I think the Newletter, database and demo reel are all good ideas but besides educating ourselves we really need to educate the client. Lawyers, I have found on the whole, can be some of the most Low Tech people in the world. They are verbally or literally based and can be intimidated by what we are offering. I actually testified before a Judge who didn't even know what a floppy disk was. I'm talking Bergen County, New Jersey not the backwoods of West Virginny. Maybe it's the East Coast which arrogantly thinks it has a penchant for the latest but I believe I have heard that Tennessee is doing more with reconstruction video then Jersey. My last two videos were from New York but after ben experienced Reconstructionist from the old school) I've been laying low for the past few months devising a marketing strategy of my own. I'm a highly technical person, not a salesman and I have relied on others for marketing. BAD IDEA! Someone contacted me some time ago (Golden?) and talked about standardizing. Fromong. What are your ideas on this?? Frankly I was put off by it but something tells me it might be a logical step. Society of Video Reconstructionists?? Sounds rediculous, why don't you add a field to your questionaire for Possible Title ________. It's exciting work but if we are not undertood or appreciated by the one's who pay the bills we aren't going to get anywhere too fast. If you need any help or further suggestions on you quest, let me know. I'm not worried about competition since it only brings out the best in us all. If we can educate ourselves at the same time we are educating others then everyone will progress. "You never lose what you are willing to give away"

Gary, >>I'm a highly technical person, not a salesman and I have relied on others for marketing.<< I think you will find that 90% of us don't enjoy the sales and marketing side of business, we like the technical stuff. Rarely do you find someone good at all the different aspects of the business. Can you share some of your ideas about the marketing you plan on doing? >>Someone contacted me some time ago (Golden?) and talked about standardizing. From the correspondence that followed I judged he wasn't going anywhere but I might be wrong.<< If you are talking about Fred Golden, then you are right. I obtained the list of people he had and contacted them to see if they would like to send me info about their companies for the Forensic Animator List. There are now 19 companies listed from across the US. If you would like to be included in the list, I would be happy to send you the info to fill out. If you would like to see the list first then you can download it, FORLST.TXT in the Index & Info section of the library. >>Society of Video Reconstructionists?? Sounds rediculous, why don't you add a field to your questionaire for Possible Title ________.<< Sounds rediculous…….Not at all!, but I do think it would be better to start a different thread. Brandon is already collecting info for an article to be in the Alabama Bar Association magazine "The Alabama Lawyer" and a list of cases with their associated info to be uploaded to the library. <<Can you share some of your ideas about the marketing you plan on doing?>> I've created a two page, laminated in plastic (for non-destructability), brochure which on one side contains a cover letter and on the other side outlines with graphics and text the whole process. I purchased a mailing list of the my tri-state laywer and insurance companies dealing in personal injury. I got one big bite from a small mailing so far but I believe it was instigated by the head of a department who felt his associates had better get with it. I believe most are intimidated and with my next step I hope to demystify. I don't like to talk about things I haven't done yet or gotten off the ground but I'll contact you again when I have made some headway in that direction and have more information to give. Other then that I just plan some follow up calls for now. I wish I had more to tell you. <<If you would like to be included in the list, I would be happy to send you the info to fill out.>> Yes I've seen the list and would be happy to be on it. Gary, >>I've created a two page, laminated in plastic (for non-destructability), brochure which on one side contains a cover letter and on the other side outlines with graphics and text the whole process.<< Sounds interesting, you could get all that on one page? Very impressive!! I have found that for every one expert that you contact, its the same as contacting many attorneys. Since they already have a relationship with them, they tend to listen to them. It doesn't cost anything either. >>Yes I've seen the list and would be happy to be on it.<< Just fill in the following info, please leave the subject headers that goes in the list also. Name: Company Name: Address: Phone #: Fax #: CompuServe #: Internet #: Areas Worked In: Additional Qual.: Business Opened: Regards………….Rick – Technical Animations
