#3D Studio under Win95

Are there any solution to the following problem? I will paraphrase the computer messages. After working in 3D studio for a while I get the message 'Can't find parallel port'. Then it asks 'which application do you want to have control of the parallel port'. I choose 3DS and it goes back to the program manager then locks up. I then have to cold boot. I looked around for some sort of parallel port setting to keep Win95 from checking the port or perhaps controlling the port, but so far I haven't located anything like that. I found that if I run Shut Down and then come up again in Dos mode and unplug my printer cable from the Sentinel, then I can work without the problem. This is not satisfactory. I realize I am on a beta version of Win95 but I have a feeling that this problem is not a bug. I could be wrong. Are there other known problems that I have not encountered that I should look out for? Is there a document with a list of problems and solutions? Karen Moyers

Windows 95 takes more control of the hardware than Windows 3.1 does. It sounds like what is happening is that you are trying to share the parallel port between a printer and your hardware lock. Windows 95 is probably blocking access to 3DS because it has assigned the parallel port to the printer. Your best option would probably be to purchase an additional parallel port card for the machin so the hardware lock can have a dedicated port. Also, as a beta tester for Windows 95, you should report this issue to Microsoft.
