#Animator Studio Guide?
5 messages in this thread
Nik,
Thanks for replying to my spontanious message!
I have communicated with Mark before through the Animator Studio beta
program. Mark helped me out when I was having trouble getting on the beta
forum on compuserve.
.
I work for Sierra On-line. I am currently designing and art directing
a new 3D rendered adventure game. We are using 3D studio version 4 with lots
of IPAS stuff, and silicon graphics machines with Alias. We are rendering
everything including characters.
In a way it's a contest. PC vs SGI, who does what better and faster?
I believe we have several registered copies of Animator Studio at work, and I
have a home copy which I have not yet registered. I think Sierra will buy more
soon.
Thanks again, JonB

Must admit I'm an amateur in 3D Studio. Only been studying it since April, but
I'm progressing OK so far. My question is, could someone give me a brief
explanation about Animator Pro and what it performs in 3D Studio? Also, I've
heard that Animator Pro is soon to be replaced with another program. I'd like
to know if that's true before I invest a few bucks in it.
Sincerely,
George
George,
There are two programs Animator Pro and Animator Studio which compliment each
other and 3D Studio. Their primary function when working with 3D Studio is
creating texture maps and doing some special effects. Both are excellent 2D
paint packages.
There are a few differences though. For dealing mainly with 8 bit, you'd
probably want to use Animator Pro. It's fast(runs in DOS), it's proven, and
thousands of people use it every day for 2D paint. For 24 bit 2D paint,
Animator Studio might be a better bet. Animator Studio was released in April as
a complimentary 2D paint package to Animator Pro. It has a new interface, run
in Windows 3.1, and allows you to do some cool 24 bit things that Animator Pro
can't.
Either way, you can't go wrong. A tip for you though, if you buy Animator Pro,
you can migrate to Animator Studio really cheap! See your local Autodesk
Multimedia dealer to evaluate the two and decide which is best for you.

hello George. Animator Pro doesn't perform in 3D Studio… think of Animator
Pro as "2D Studio".<g> AniPro is a paint package which integrates with 3D
Studio… a classic analogy for the two: think of 3D Studio as the world and
the camera, and Animator Pro as the photolab. if you were doing a
photorealistic model with your company logo in the bottom corner throughout the
movie, you could paste the logo into the movie (created by 3D Studio) with
AniPro. AniStudio is a Window package which does a similar thing in Truecolor
(24-bit with alpha channel) whereas Animator Pro does its thing in DOS 8-bit.
