dear OXXI,
I have a file that i was updating tonight, it is the file of all
the users in our club. tonight a new memeber joined the club, and i used
A-N(ew) to bring up a new record. I then entered all the information that
he provided (there are no required fields in this file) and got the
error/requester saying "error placing record in file" or something like
that, so i tried it again, same thing. so i used the vcr forward button,
the save this record requester came up, and i clicked no and moved onto the
next record. when i looked up the problem name SB took me right there! and
when i hit the vcr forward i found i have 2 copies of the same record.
i tried to delete one (when it was current) and my machine bombed,
and then i tried changing the last name so wouldn't be 2 of the same
record, this also crashed. guru 8000 0025 user trap.
i run a 3000 w/ pp&s 040 card, 18 mg ram, 2 quantums 52/116. i
tried the 030 mode and found that there is still a problem (crashes). this
also happens when i try and use the process/remove command.
if you can tell me what to do or if you would like a copy of the
file to see if you can figure out what is the matter i can upload it or
mail you a copy. any help would be greatly appriciated as i don't want to
up date the whole file manually from the last backup (a little over 3 mos)

run a reorganize and see if that doesn't clean up your problem.

Try to reorganize the database using "PROCESS REORGANIZE" and specify a
new file name when prompted. This will copy all the data from the source
database to a new database with the new name provided. After the process
is complete, attempt to open the new database and proceed from there. You
can later delete the old database and rename it to the old name.

In response to your msg regarding using "Process Re-organize" to create a
new file name and then deleting the old data-base and renaming the new
one. I had the impression that is impossible to do (since I just
recentally tried it) since calculated fields tend to include the filename
along with the field-name. For example field.file … Thus confusing the
heck out of Super-Base.

Just open the *.sbd file in any editor with search and replace and change
the filename.

Thanks for the tip.. When I saw the format of the .sbd file (before your
post) I was almost tempted to write a utility to manipulate the thing.
But it never crossed my mind to load it into an editor.

You might try removing the indiciesrom the database (you have to leave at
least one active), reorg it to the same name and rebuild the indicies one
at a time. Try accessing the record in question after deleting each index
and you will be able to identify the one that got trashed. My experience
has been with cross-file validations and having an index on one of the
associated databases get bollixed up. I blew away the indicies as outlined
above and managed to recover every thing fully. If you need any assistance
with this method, I'll be glad to give you a hand.
