This question referes to a series of messages from Chris Johnston. I missed the first parts. I want to put in coordinates and roll, pitch and yaw angles of a satellite in space. You told me before that this may be done with the VUE file, and I need 2.01 to make heads or tails out of the rotation angles. (I am peeved that Adesk has taken a month to process the upgrade, by the way), Anyway, Chris's message mad mention of teh 3DSLIB. What is this? Will it take rotations and displacements and how is it different from teh VUE files in 2.01? As I assume the 3DSLIB is the way you will reccomend, how much will it cost? DForgive the spelling… Rich Schwartz NASA Langley Research Center

Your assumption is correct. The _best_ way to do this will be with the 3DSLIB. Contact Chris Allis (415/491/8727) or Regina Brown (415/491/8777) at Autodesk for information about how to become a registered developer (I think this will be required for access to the 3DSLIB.) I've got no idea of the cost, or about any of the other specifics relating to it. – G

Hello Rick, Gary, et al- I just want to clarify a couple of points. First, 3dslib (or rightly, the 3ds file toolkit) is NOT currently available, and won't be for a while yet (think weeks/months, not years. We're workin' on it). When it is available, it will only be to registered developers due to some confidentiality issues. Second, the best way currently to contact the multimedia developer relations group is to write to: Multimedia Developer Relations Autodesk, Inc. 2320 Marinship Way Sausalito, CA 94965 Include some information about who you are and what you'd like to do. An alternative would be to fax a request to 415/491-8308. Either of these methods will guarantee the most timely response. Various folks here can (and probably will) attest to how difficult it is to contact me directly via phone. Specific pricing and release date have yet to be released, but developers will receive information as soon as it's available. Thanks, Chris

Thanks for the clarification about the "3DS File Toolkit", Chris. It's very helpful (and much appreciated) for you to drop in on the forum! It sounds like the best thing to do would be to tell folks just to fax you at the 415/491/8308 number, right? – G
