I am having problems printing with the Okimate 20 printer. For some reason I get no line feeds for the first 4 lines of text, either header or document. What I did to check was to create a document with no top or bottom margin. Then set fixed 6 lines per inch. Then I put in a three line header, 60 lines in the document and a three line footer. I printed using NLQ. All three header lines and the first line of the document were printed on the first line of the paper. The rest of the lines were printed correctly, however the top of the form was now incorrect. Is there a problem with the Okimate 20 driver. I am using the one that came on the system disk. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I am very impressed with Prowrite 3.0 except for the printing problem. Thanks, Jeff

Jeff, To correct the printing problem you are having, you must set the "No Gaps Between Pages" option in the "Page Setup" requester to ON. This setting basically tells ProWrite that you are positioning the paper so that the first line printed is right at the top of the page, and that you want to print on the full length of the paper. When this option is off, you are telling ProWrite that you are positioning the paper down 1/2 inch from the top and that you will only be using 60 lines of the 66 on the page. This is useful if it is difficult to position your paper at the exact top, as it lets you position the paper so that (on many printers) the first sheet is under the platten rollers. Also, all page printers have a limitation of not being able to print on the entire page, so this option is automatically disabled for them. Since you have this option off, yet still have text in the top 1/2 inch of the page, ProWrite will print all the text in this region on the same line before it starts advancing the paper. If you turn on the "Show Invisibles" option (in the "View" menu), a dotted outline will be drawn around the non-printable areas (determined by the Page Setup options). If you have any text outside the outline, you must either adjust things to be within it or change the page setup to enlarge the printable region. James Bayless New Horizons Software, Inc.

I recently added memory to my system. I have an A500 with two floppies 1.5 mg 512Agnus. I would like to use the dictionary and/or thesaurus and still have room for data files on two disks. Can I get ProWrite to recognise that the dictionary is in RAD: and use it? How?

Tom, Generally we recommend putting the dictionary and thesaurus files in the RAM: disk, not the RAD: disk, since it is faster and takes up only as much memory as is neccesary to fit. If you put the dictionary and thesaurus files on the RAM: disk, ProWrite will automatically find them there. However, you can still use them from the RAD: disk if you prefer, but you will need to do a little more work. Before you run ProWrite, issue the CLI command "Assign ProWrite: RAD:". This will make ProWrite look for the dictionary and thesaurus files on the RAD: disk. You can add this line to your startup-sequence to make it automatically happen when you start your system. This works because ProWrite takes a three-step process when looking for its files: 1. Look in the RAM: disk if it is present. 2. Look in wherever "ProWrite:" is assigned to, if the assigment is set up. 3. Look in the same drawer as the ProWrite program. Note that unlike other programs, you don't _have_ to do an "Assign ProWrite: …" command, you only need to do this if you don't want to have your dictionary and thesaurus files somewhere other than the RAM: or program disks.
