Blue Ribbon SoundWorks should be releasing a Universal Librarian as an
Accessory for Bars&Pipes Professional in the fall. For those who don't know
what that is, it's a program that will allow you to store all your synth
and sound module patches to a floppy disk, and then retrieve them from disk
back to your synth. You can organize all your patches, similar to the way
you work with a database. It should also be released as a stand-alone
product. You'll be able to create drivers for any MIDI synth.

How many of you would be interested in a Universal Editor from the Blue
Ribbon SoundWorks? It would be released as both an Accessory to B&P Pro,
and as a stand-alone product. It would work in conjunction with their
Universal Librarian. A Universal Editor allows you to edit the patches on
your synth using the mouse and a graphical representation of the parameters
you wish to edit on your monitor. It's much better than using your synth's
small LCD display and paging through menus. Although there are other
Editors on the market, if Blue Ribbon does one it should have an
outstanding interface. The price will also be very reasonable. If released,
the Editor will also allow you to create your own templates for any MIDI
synth that exists.

WILL ALSO ALLOW YOU TO CREATE YOUR OWN TEMPLATES?
It's important that you answer even if you're NOT interested, so they can
gauge user interest. Also, please indicate if you'd be interested in the
B&P Pro Accessory or the stand-alone product that does not require any
other software to use.

Were I to get more serious about MIDI and start using Bars & Pipes (which
might happen if you were to come out with a really good notation editor ala
DMCS or Sonix) I might be interested in such an editor…

A universal editor with an exceptional interface is quite an undertaking. I
would be interested in such a beast, though.

That's a tough one…
I really like MIDIQuest, so it would have to be as good, and work well with
B&P, which is a given, so I guess the answer is yes.
You might suggest a joint venture with the MIDIQuest folks… just a
thought!!

And while I'm thinking of it, I had an idea the other day for something
that would be useful to me, and maybe others… How about a program that
would analyze a keyboard part, and a) tell me its approximate difficulty
overall, and b) locate any tough and/or uplayable parts? I know there are
some standard measures of difficulty ( used, for instance, in
pedagogical(sp?) materials ). I'm a very poor keyboard player myself, and
so sometimes when I have to write a piano or organ accomp. part, it ends up
being more difficult to play than intended….

Sorry for the delay in responding. No price has been set yet, but it would
be comparable to other products of its kind. Probably even less, for the
Accessory version.

would DEFINITELY want that editor.
