Craig, I can think of several good reasons to have a version of 3DS for Windows. Some applications multi-task under Windows. Crosstalk for example will transmit a file in the background while you can continue to work on other stuff. Wouldn't this be possible with a Windows version of 3DS? The horsepower required to render animations is similarr to the machine required for running Windows sucessfully (286, 2MB my a__ … its realistically like a Cray …). It would also be nice to cut and paste between apps (like AutoCAD AME geometry into 3DS). It would also be very handy to have both running on the screen at the same time and work between them (like using AutoCAD for creating complex polygons for lofting …). It would be convienient to be able to continue use the machine for a few hours while 3DS rendered in the background (like answer CI$ mail). When you need optimum speed, run the DOS-Extender version. Otherwise, use Windows. I really like the way Autodesk has handled this with AutoCAD … – Mark

Mark, I'd even be happy if it would run the DOS xtended version under Windows. James

Mark: Well, I don't think we were talking about 3DS for Windows… We were talking about 3DS. I have also heard that modem communication in the 'background' isn't really 'in the background'. The communications software must have total control of the port when it is sending or receiving. Therefore, a 'wait' has to be sent if you make a request for something that has priority over the communication software…. kinda like a bicycle asking a freight train to stop so it can go across the way I see it <g>. I'm no expert on Windows, that's for sure. It's just not ready for the kind of abuse I want to put to it… other users in our firm don't mind since they have never had to wait on the computer too much (they're still learning the software…). C#
