I have been reading your messages with autodesk regarding their animation player I and many others have been having the similar problems. if you are going to strictly use the mci function to play animations you will only be able to get it to run at 320×200 in the center of the screen. the scripting files do not work. It is a major problem and is hampering the use of some sophisticated graphics and interactivity. My company HamCoor has been try to get around this problem for some time as is some of the larger authoring companies. In particparticular, Aimtech(makers of icon author) and authorware Professional. If you use the dll their are many limitations. A sample of what you may be looking for is in the multimedia vedors forum go multiven in the author ware professional files folder under something like animation player. I have also been working with iconauthor to get this solved. It would be a MAJOR breakthrough in windows interactive multimedia if a interactive full screen (or partial screen) driver could be written. I have one of my programmers currently working on this. I would love to get anyother programmers and autodesk involved to solve this.

Well Sam, I have to say that I don't agree with your assessment regarding the Autodesk Windows Developers Kit. Calling the .animation property from Visual Basic gives me the flexibility to play FLI, FLC and AAS files of any dimension anywhere on the screen. I can play .AAS scripts directly from VB with the full screen driver and I have only a minor glitch in that the -F parameter doesn't force full screen until the second line of the script. True -F does take the whole screen black and center it but big deal. Why would you want to use the MCI function call when you call the AAPLAY library directly? Please download my BROWZ.ZIP from DL 9 and check it out. In the GLOBAL.BAS file you will find a declaration for the Windows function to convert twips (the windows screen measurement unit) into pixels (the measurement unit returned by animation.animheight/width. My latest version of the BROWZer plays .AAS, MID, WAV and has CDAUDIO support. My only gripes with the toolkit are: o no GIF support o No example of calling AANOTIFY so that ANIMFRAME events can be generated. Apparently a new Windows Developement Kit is in Beta. In someways my being in the UK helps because I can deal with the folks at Autodesk Europe who I have found to be gracious, responsive and technically competent.

The new version of the Animation Player Developer's Kit for Windows is now available. It's version 1.01. You can order it by calling 800-525-2763. BTW: I'm still working on locating or creating additional examples of using the .DLL with VB; just been swamped lately.

I'm in the UK and can't call 800 numbers. Can you please send about 5 copies of the new kit to: Mr. Leigh Whitney – Multimedia Development Manager Autodesk UK Cross Lanes Guildford, Surrey GU1 1UJ UK That way I can get it through the proper channels. Leigh is brand new into this position and could use your help. Since Chris Wells left as the UK 3D Studio Product Champion things have been a bit shaken up at UK Multimedia.

Phil, What is the name of the company you are affiliated with now? What are you guys up to? If you need it, I have an old family friend in Ireland who has a daughter in England. She is about 23 or 24 and is an artist. Could you use any entry level help? If so, I can put him in touch with you guys…
