#Music CD-R Tech. Anyone?

Can anyone point me in the right direction? I'm trying to find out about
CD-R, specifically music CD's for short production runs. I believe it's now
possible to buy relatively small pieces of equipment which will do this, at a
fairly low cost. Any information, or info as to where I can find out about
this stuff, would be much appreciated.

You've come to the right place. Several of the vendors here manufacture or
sell such equipment and supporting software. Us, for instance <G>.
Whether this is a practical thing to do depends on what you consider
inexpensive, and how many of these short runs you want to do. Also, you may
need to invest more in sound studio equipment than in CD-R stuff, unless you
already have access to that.

The Philips CDD521 Compact Disc Recorder is capable, with certain software, to
create audio CD's. You will first need a quality soundcard capable of sampling
at 44.1 KHz, in stereo, to digitize the audio you wish to place on CD. The
CDD521 can be purchased with the necessary software to record CD audio. The
CDD521 can also be used to record CD-ROM as well. Contact Philips Consumer

Are there any PC-based CD-R units that will master Redbook audio from a DAT?

PMFJI, but the answer is yes. The tricky part is not so much the writer, but
the software.

Jim,
When you say "master Redbook audio from a DAT" do you really mean a "Master" or
are you referring to a one-off (CD-R)? If the latter, then yes there are
several packages which will make an audio CD-R and most of those work with DAT
tape. If you really mean "master" then I'm not aware of any and I'm not sure
why you'd want to. The mastering is usually done at the replication house.
You may also want to consider a service shop (like ours) to handle the CD part
of the process rather than doing it yourself. Unless you're planning to make a
lot of one-offs you'll find it's cheaper.

The One-Off CD Shops (section 6) are dealers for several CD-R hardware and
software vendors, including some that can do audio as well as CD-ROM.
Look in the Section 6 library for the files describing our shops and their
locations to find the one most convenient to you. Or I'll be happy to help you
