Mr. Conehead here. Trying to remove the face from the end of a cylinder. I can't figure out how to select it so I can delete it. Help! Mitch

For removing the face from the cylinder, it should be pretty straightforward as long as you haven't rotated the cylinder at all. If you have rotated it, rotate it back to its original position, or recreate it. 1. Make sure you are in Full Draw mode (not Box Mode) for the display. 2. You have to pick the correct viewport to select the face in. Don't choose the viewport where the cylinder looks like a circle, pick one of the other ones where you can see the length of the cylinder. Choose Select/Face/Window and draw a box around the top edge of the cylinder in one of those viewports. You should see the top edge of the cylinder turn red in all the viewports. 3. Choose Modify/Face/Delete and turn Selected ON. Click on the viewport. The face should disappear. The mesh won't look any different on screen, you'll have to render it to see the difference. Michele

Aha…thanks! That did the trick. Appreciate your help. I could not find this infor anywhere in the manual. I would like to take that manual and put it in a dark place where the sun never shines.

Glad to help. For that reason, that info is written in detail in the first chapter of the 3DS book Glass & Reflection, co-authored by yours truly. Michele <never miss an opportunity for a blatant plug>

From looking over your messages for the past several months, it looks like you've been attempting to _read_ the manual where the sun never shines. – Jack

And the lights are on full blast. I am hoping that the new manual in R3 will address some of the weaknesses to newcomers that I have found over the last few months. Mitch

Excuse me, but I'd like to step in here between you and Jack and make a request. If you've got specific issues you'd like to address in the documentation, please do so. But vague comments like "swamp gas" and "sun never shines" are really not productive. If you two DO want to go at it like this, please take it "off-line" and do it via email. Thanks, – G

Mitch, While in the viewport looking at the side of the cylinder do a Select-Face-Window and clich just outside the face you wish to delete. Then stretch the bounding box till it lines up with the end face (that part of the box will turn black when it's lined up) then click. Then it is Modify-Face-Delete with Selected on. -Ralph Frantz

Switch to an elevational view (front, back, left, right, or a good user-view) and use select/face/window to grab just the top (which will of course just be a straight line). then use modify/face/delete with the "selected" button turned on. Dave
