Actually, we did all of our R&D on the Sync Strainer using the Mitsubishi Diamondscan monitor. If any monitor works with the Sync Strainer, the Diamondscan does! ___ /__) ,_ _ _ _/__) / /__/ /_ /_-' PreVue Technologies

Bruce, I'm using just the standard VGA adapter that C= put out. How would one go about picking up the Sync Strainer (looks like I'm needing your address <g>). What does it do (little words please, I'm still getting used to the different modes now made available <g>)? BTW I'm using the Mitsubishi Diamondscan 1381A. Also, if I picked up the Sync Strainer would I need to get another cable (<sigh> have go through two already and the one I am presently using I suspect is not shielded very well). The Sync Strainer is available from dealers that buy through CEI, MicroPace, or American Software. You can also buy direct at 1 800 356 8863 (Pacific Time office hours). $59 list, discounted somewhat on the street. The Sync Strainer does the job of the basic Commodore adapter until a gen-lock (read: Toaster) is started up. At that point, the Amiga stop putting out Horizontal and Vertical sync signals. The Sync Strainer takes composite sync and splits it into the H and V syncs that the multi-syncs need. The Sync Strainer is available with a 9-pin "D" or a 15-pin high- density "D" connector, with the 15-pin unit being much more popular. The 15-pin "D" is the closest thing to a monitor connector standard that exists. The Mitsubishi uses a custom pinout on their 25-pin "D". I can get a suggested cable drawing to you if you want to make your own cable. Otherwise, Redmond Cable (WA) or most any technician can do the job. ___ /__) ,_ _ _ _/__) / /__/ /_ /_-'

Bruce, Tnx for the info. Donot have a Toaster, so how would this improve my video signal (w/ & w/o strainer). A cable has already been made up for the monitor (a 25 "D" pin connection with only 9 pins used to a 15 "D" pin and that attached to the C= adapter). About the only complaint I have about the cable is that it may not have enough shielding on it. Trent One of the "Frozen Chosen"

Trent, Since you're not using the Toaster, the basic C= adapter should work fine in your application. If the lack of cable shielding becomes a problem, try some creative cable routing to try to get it away from the noise source (switching power supplies, AC line cords, disk drive motors). ___ /__) ,_ _ _ _/__) / /__/ /_ /_-'

I second that! Sync strainer works great on Diamondscan and Diamondscan is the best all-round AGA monitor I've found yet. I've sold dozens of 'em – customers are happy. I also use two of 'em on my systems – one for an A1200 and one for a Retina board in my 2000/Toaster.

Tom, The video 23-15 pin adapter I have is the C= one (part# 690682-01). What is the "Strainer" and what would it do better than the adapter I'm using? BTW did a little experimenting and found that while some games work fine with DBLNTSC in, others do not even come up (that is why I suspected the mode promotion feature). I picked up a number of older programs lately (stuff not made after '92) and while they work in the boot up mode (AGA on my A1200) they do hang or go with a video scramble at some time. I then used the Early Startup Config feature with 3.0 and rebooted using the enhanced (ie ECS) selection rather than best available and while I lost my coloured workbench (for AGA only of course) it did boot with a bigger WB screen and all those finicky programs worked (as well as using the whole screen on the Diamondscan instead of the partial screen with the black borders).
