#ImageFX1.5 scanner.prob

ANYONE,
I have recently bought a copy of GVP's ImageFX 1.5 and it doesn't work –
or at least the scanner section doesn't work.
I installed the program as advised onto my hard drive and everything went
well, it loaded OK.
I followed the instructions as per Chapter 2 and 3 of the manual. With
regard to the scanner I selected the EPSON option (though I notice the
manual says it only supports the EPSON 300C) the guy in the shop (SILICA,
Glasgow) told me it would work with my EPSON GT-8000.
From page 5-3 of the manual I attempted to run the scanner module, but all
that happened was that the ready light on the scanner went out and the
'watch/busy' icon on the screen appeared …… and that was that –
nothing else happened.
According to the manual I should have been put into the scanner option
frames but this does not happen – all I am looking at is the 'watch/busy'
icon. It does not look as though the computer is freezing up as I can move
the icon easy enough but if I press elsewhere on the screen nothing else
happens.
Can anyone advise?
My system is:-
AMIGA1200
M1230XA 50mhz accelerator with 68882 50mhz co-pro
8Mb fast ram
250Mb Maxtor IDE hard drive.
EPSON GT-8000 flat-bed scanner.
also connected to computer is SupraFax v32bis modem and 1960 monitor.
Thanks for any help anyone can offer.

Iain, you do not mention what sort of cable you are using with your Epson
scanner. We support two types of cables; the ASDG style and a faster cable
designed by GVP. Regular printer cables do not work.
What you will need to do to connect your scanner is connect using one of
these cables, select EPSON as your scanner module, then select SCANNER from
ImageFX. Wait (up to a minute) for the scanner menu to appear – WITH THE
SCANNER TURNED OFF. The long delay is for broad compatibility with various
scanner models and models of Amigas. Once the menu appears, select the
Options… item on the menu. Change the cable type to whichever you are
using. Go to PREFS and save your settings. Power EVERYTHING off then turn
the Amiga and the Scanner on. Everything should work now.

Iain,
The EPSON scanner requires a special parallel port cable for proper operation.
ASDG sells such a cable with their software upgrade for EPSON support. Redmond
Cable in the U.S. also sells a GVP EPSON cable for use with ImageFX. Both of
these cables will work, with a selection in the EXTRAS menu of the EPSON
module.
If you have the ASDG cable, you'll need to remove the cable, turn on your
machine, change the selection in the EXTRAS menus to show ASDG, and then save
your preferences. YOu can then replace the cable and use the scanner.
