#PAR-Razor RAM
7 messages in this thread
Mike,
Your help again. I am having memory problems loading 30 second PAR
clips with 6 minutes worth of music WAV file. I have only 24 MB RAM on this
Pentium 90. Do I need more RAM or is it just not being assigned properly?
What precisely do I need to change in order to work with massive clips–as
in 3-5minutes worth at a time. Presently I can work with only about one 30
secind clip with the underlying 6minutes of music (which is only at 22khz.
Being in the UK, your instant replies are a lifeline. Thanks…
(This is a 40 minute animation program for kiddies so it is enough of a
nightmare tracking frames as it is.) I could do it the hard way but I'd rather
find a fix.
Thanks, Chris/Technofilm
Christie, Just the other day I assembled an 8:43 min. clip with a 96 meg 44.1
KHz audio file. The audio file was played from a AV SCSI drive and the clip
from the PAR drive, all without a problem, although the wave file does take
some time to load. My system is a P90 with 32 megs of ram, IN:SYNC recommends
24 megs of ram to use Razor Pro and 32 megs to use Razor Pro with TransJammer's
transitions. I'm not sure how much free RAM you have on your system,
Microsoft's smartdrv.exe and ramdisk.sys etc. all use up system resources, so
your free RAM may vary. Try to setup your system using the least amount of
extended RAM as possible and try doing some edits in RP.
I noticed you mentioned having a 6 min. audio with 30 seconds of media, you
will not be able to play back this as a Project file with the MCI drivers from
windows. The clip must be the same length or longer than the wave file in order
to use the MPlayer from Windows. To work around this you need to do a loop on
the last frame or add a series of still frames to the end of your clip to equal
the length of your wave file.
Good luck!

Thanks again. I will try. I also shortened the audio and had success–when
you have a minute, I'd like to know what drive(s) you have on PAR but thats
not urgent–just curiosity.
Thanks, Chris
>> what drive(s) you have on PAR <<
I have two Micropolis 2217 drives, one with a removable tray that I can turn
off the power on so it is not running all the time which helps keeps my box a
little cooler.

Thanks for the info Mike. Sometime, off the record, I would be interested to
know what sort of work you do.
Thanks for all your great help.

Christie,
You need to make sure that you have 530k of conventional
memory in DOS. Go into DOS, at the prompt type MEM.
If your conventional memory is less than 530k use MEMMAKER
to fix this. Type MEMMAKER at the prompt and this should
work.

Thanks,I will try that. But I found that if I combined my dozen(s) of short
clips (totalling 3-4minutes) within PAR when I knew they were to be cut
straight together anyway–then in Razor, I absolutely had no problem.
But I will try your suggestion.
