That means that the range is point-to-point, and that it won't go through
obstructions easilly.
Are you familiar with radio technologies?
If you're not, you might talk with some of the folks over in HAMNET who do
packet radio; I do packet myself with a 1200 baud antenna over the 2m amateur
band, and the range you're saying is comparable to a 2m signal at about 50
watts output power (I think that's about what I get out of my Yaesu FT-2400 –
I've been off the air for a few months recently because I moved).
My understanding of spread-spectrum technology is a bit shaky, but from a
discussion I had with someone who was planning to build a spread-spectrum RF
modem for use on packet, they'd be full-duplex, even allowing multiple receive
with a single transmit; that could be quite interesting…
