My CDD521 produces discs that can be read on every CDROM player I have tried,
including the Texcel 2x, NEC 3x, Teac 4x, Sony 1x and 2x etc.

I'm convinced that the ability to read CD-R discs isn't a simple matter. My
Texel _used_ to read CD-R great then quit over a period of about a week. It
was repaired (replaced) with a unit that was supposed to have been checked for
CD-R readability. It can read some CD-Rs but not others.
Felix Nemirovsky, an engineer with Plextor who really seems to know his stuff,
told me that the only way to really be sure a player will work with CD-R is to
send a CD-R from that recorder and have the player matched to the specific
recorder. Now I'm sure he's talking about for the best match, not just a
match. In my case I'll probably just sell the Texel 2X and upgrade that unit.
As a player this Texel has less than 2 hours of use on it.

I have problems on one of my computers reading the CDRs from my Pinnacle
RCD-1000. I was thinking that it might be a single vs. multisession thing, but
from what I'm learning/hearing it may be a relatively wide-spread problem with
CDRs

I prefer to think of it as a wide-spread problem with CD Players instead of a
wide-spread problem with CD-Rs. It's clear that CD-R is going to be around for
a while so it stands to reason that the players should support the media.

Can you be a little more specific about what kind of problem and what kind of
player? Part of the reason it's so hard for anyone to define the problems is
that everyone is so vague about what they're experiencing.
If you're seeing only the first session on a multisession disc, you've probably
got (as you suspected) the classic multisession-in-Mode 2-only problem. If it's
something else, well, we're all trying to figure it out, and the CD-ROM
manufacturers aren't keen on admitting what the problems might be.

Pardon me for asking a dumb question but what's " the classic
multisession-in-Mode 2-only problem"? Does the s/w version supplied with the
RCD1000 keep us from accidentally doing the wrong thing, or are we on our own?

Sorry, that's not a dumb question, that's me assuming too much. There's a file
in the Incat library (GO INCATS), "Reading Multisession Discs: Problems"
(MULTIS.TXT), which explains the problem. It's not that you have done the wrong
thing (nor could you with the software), it's that CD-ROM drive manufacturers
have made some wrong assumptions about what format a multisession disc should
be in — some drivers will not recognize a disc as multisession unless it is
written in Mode 2 (CD-ROMXA) format. Most software, including Easy-CD Pro,
writes Mode 1. Hence the problem…

Humm…..I think it was regarding what adjustments they make to drives to
assure they read CD-R discs properly given the various characteristics of
various types of CD-R media…..Sound right?
