#25 fps in 3DS

Is there anyway that I can get 3DS to to 25 FPS when I output to JPEG
format without using a video .
Thanks

"Is there anyway that I can get 3DS to to 25 FPS"
If I understand you correctly, you would like to have 25 individual JPG frames
on your hard disk equal a second of video.
I think that all you have to do is render the frames. It's when it goes to
video that you decide on the 25 vs 30.
Let me know if I've misunderstood.
Nik, what I am trying to do is make an animation down to jpeg, then I convert
these frames into MJPEG to use with my Fast FPS60 MJPEG board and then put them
over to tv, when converting the card askes me for a FPS so I want 3DS to
output at 25 fps so I can get a 24 bit animation to tape. Can this be done.
Thanks Rob.

3DS has no bearing on the duration of an event during playback on your output
device. If you intend to record your animation on a device that plays back
frames at a rate of 25 frames per second, you will need to keyframe your
animation accrodingly. If an event is to take one second, set the key frames
25 frames apart.
If you have an existing animation that was originally created with the
intention of 30 fps playback, and you now need to output it with a device that
plays at 25 fps, you will need to time-scale the animation by a ratio of 25/30
and re-render the frames.

James, thanks for your answer, but I am new to 3DS so please bear with me.
What I am trying to do is,
In 3DS ver 4 render down to JPEGS, but I want it to output at 25 fps PAL.
Then I am going into a prog and will convert these jpegs to an AVI, which asks
me
to set a FPS, if I set this to 25 the prog will then convert. What I am doing
is
coverting to MJPEG with the FAST FPS 60 board and then play the anim through
the card to vhs tape, but I cannot see any where in the instrutions that let me
to that unless I connect a beta cam video. Can it be done.
Thanks again Rob
OK, I think I see what you're getting at.
First, the FPS setting in AVI is only for determining playback speed on an AVI
player, like the Windows Media Player. I don't understand why you're bothering
with AVI. Isn't there a way to compress the raw TGA files right to your MPEG
device without the midstep?
Since it sounds like your MPEG device is PAL, it will automatically play back
at 25fps. The only place where timing becomes an issue, then, is in the
keframing withing 3DS. If you've handled that, you're all set.
Finally, if your MPEG board only has outputs for Beta, you'll have to get a
signal converter to get a standard composite out signal for your VHS deck.
Some devices do this automatically, but I'm not the person to ask about the
intricacies of video. Perhaps Don Landis could lend you a hand on that matter.
Good luck.

Rob,
The JPEG format that 3DS renders to is a single frame. Not a motion JPEG. The
concept of frames per second does not apply.
In order to get your 25 frames per second, you should render 25 TGA files for
each second and then import those TGA files directly into an MPEG format. There
are several TGA to MPEG converters available in the public domain, and one
probably came with your FAST board. The 25 fps vs. 30 fps. is a setting on the
converter that you use when performing the import.

Thanks for the reply Brian,
I can use TGA s and convert them to MJPEG but If you do a scene of a car going
past, lets say of 500 frames
from point A to Point B 3DS will render to TGA at a frame rate of 14.085, how
can I get 3DS to up the FPS to 25,
can it be done. The software I use does ask what frame rate you want, if I
select 25 it examines the TGA and reports
that I have exceeded the FPS and should set it lower. If I continue the the
conversion the AVI stutters because of
the lack of frames.
Thanks
Rob
Rob,
In 3DS, when you are rendering to targa files, one TGA file equals one frame of
video. If you want something to happen in exactly one second, in the keyframer
you place the key points of the action exactly 25 frames apart.

>>I can use TGA s and convert them to MJPEG… 3DS will render to TGA at a

There is really no such thing as a frame rate in as far as targa (or
any other single image format) is concerned. Your problem will only be solved
by telling the software doing the TGA to AVI conversion to up the compression
of the AVI (where is the MJPG step here? your final format is AVI, right?), so
that your hardware has less information to spit out to the screen in a single
second. If you can't raise the compression, you'll need to do a lower color AVI
and/or lower the frame size. ( most AVI's will only do 25 fps if they are very
small in size (less than 320×240))
The only thing you can do at the 3ds end would be to render to a
smaller frame size, or possibly render only 256 color images. You might try
rendering to a flic and the doing a flic to AVI conversion.
