#HDD controller failure?

What does HDD controller failure mean? I was trying to move my internal modem
over to another computer and ran into some problems (I lost my mouse), so I
decided to remove the internal modem, but I still didn't have control of my
mouse, so I rebooted one more time and the system locked up. Upone rebooting
again, I get the HDD controller failure message. Any Ideas? Thanks.

Sounds like your HDD (Hard Disk Drive) controller card is not functioning
properly, James. Your system is not seeing the hard drive.
Hopefully, you jostled it a bit when moving your modem around. The first thing
you should do is carefully remove it and then re-seat it. Then, make absolutely
sure all the drive cables are properly seated in the card, and the drives, too.
Checking the power cables to the drives wouldn't hurt, either, and make sure
the ones you are using still have power running to them.
Also, check to see that your BIOS is still set up to "see" your hard drive (if
you are not running a SCSI system). I've seen BIOS's "lose" this information
now and then, especially when you mess with cards, etc.
If this doesn't fix it, you may need to swap out the card to see if it is bad.

Hope you aren't running a Zeos system. I had one that's been totally
transformed, partially because of a mysterious HDD controller failure that was
intermittent. I replaced HD cables, made sure they were tight and properly
connected. The system was never transported. It would operate fine one day,
and the next it would give the error message. I eventually replaced the whole
motherboard with one that was up to date and more capable and ALSO did NOT have
a built in controller interface.
