#When 2.0 for 2000???

I have been holding off asking this question, but I can't hold back any
more! I searched the message base and found nothing (that I could see) to
indicate that anyone's heard anything about 2.0 for the 2000. My 1950
MultiScan and Flicker Fixer were purchased this summer in anticipation, and
now sit here far more patiently than I in hopes that the promise
(somebody's going to pick on me for my choice of words, I'm sure) of
September for 2.0 for the 2000 would be kept. Anyway, what's the word? The
rumor? The official double-talk? Anything! Sorry to start getting impatient
here, but a week from today it's September already. I'm hoping the "new"
Commodore will not delay like the "old" Commodore did with 1.1, 1.2, 1.3
(sheesh!). Remember?

My sources indicate mid-September. No official word for C-A though, so
your guess is probably as valid as theirs.

you answered your own question. Commodore said, Sometime in September. It
is not yet Septembers. They did not name a day in the month when it would
happen. Certainly not the first day! If any of us gave you a date, we
would just be guessing, and I don't plan to get into that kind of game.
When 2.0 is ready, Commodore will release it. Until then, we will wait.
And most of us are far more concerned that it really be ready than we are
with the particular day on which it is released.
Hope you can hold on just a tad longer. I think it will be worth it, but
only if it is not rushed.

Thanks, Betty. From all I've seen and heard about 2.0, it feels like
Christmas is coming — hence the impatience.

Don, some examples from other dates of CBM's. The A3000 was scheduled
for June. It arrived at stores come the last week of June. AmigaVision was
scheduled for May. It came out sometime in June. Networking was scheduled
to begin in July. It didn't.

I know about the 3000 and AmigaVision (have AmigaVision, dream about the
3000). I didn't know networking was late (jitter!). The replies, and there
are several, give me hope for September, but I don't think I'll run and buy
Windows 3 if it's late.

This is not meant as a wise-crack or put-down, but out of a genuine
curiosity… What is there about WB 2.0 that would make you so anxious to
get ahold of a copy for your 2000? I, too, have a multiscan monitor and a
MW FlickerFixer and wonder what I am missing out on. From the threads I
catch here, the two "big whups" about 2.0 are the high-resolution, 4 color
screens and a fair degree of software incompability with available
material. Most people seem to be giving thanks to the Creator that they
can switch over to 1.3 to run the A3000! Other threads imply that the
existing WB 2.0 is only a beta version, and that is why it is not etched in
stone (ROM). Is this info incorrect?

Tom, 2.0 makes 1.3 look like trash. In the "look at it with your eyes"
sense of the phrase. next, it supplies many facilities that are missing, or
only available thru PD offering (of dubious quality) from unsupported
sources. if we say that the change from 1.1 to 1.2 was important to the
stability of the OS, that 1.2 to 1.3 was important to the power of the
shell and file system
, then it would be fair to say that the change from
1.3 to 2.0 is important to the _seriousness_ of the system – how
effectively it can be marketed, used, and – this is important – how
smoothly a developer can implement professional applications.
2.0 is very important, IMHO. When it is released, we will no longer
developer software that concerns itself with running under 1.3 or earlier –
right now, we won't develop anything _for_ 2.0, simply because there is no
assurance that it will be released at any particular time. When (if) it is
released, we'll jump right on board.

Thanks for your response. I played with 2.0 once in a store when I got my
monitor (stores are tough to get to where I live). I loved it dearly, loved
the look of it, the extra features, the high resolution — everything! I
know the Beta versions have had plenty of incompatibility problems,
something that may not be truly resolved (wild guess here!) until 2.1, but
1.3 is not really meant for high resolution and that Next look. I see a new
toy out there, and I want to play as soon as possible. You wanna make
somethin' of it? 😎

Well…they still have about 5 weeks to keep that promise. I
suspect that they'll be quite close to the mark. I think you'll see the
new ROMs available by the middle of October at the latest, and the middle
of September at the earliest.
