#Distant Suns Bug Alert!
11 messages in this thread
Attention Distant Suns 4.0 Owners!!!
————————————
We have discovered a bug in the 'Creating New Orbits' portion of Distant
Suns. If you enter the example on page 44 of the manual, and click on
'Show', this will lock up Distant Suns, requiring a reboot. DO NOT click on
'Save', as this CAN trash your hard disk as the program crashes while
creating the orbit file. Repeat — DO NOT click on 'Save'!!!
Mike is currently working on erradicating this bug, and we will post an
announcement when a fix is available.

Clint –
I haven't ordered my DS 4.0 upgrade yet. Should I wait until you have the
bug fix ready?

Jeff:
We expect to have a bug fix version ready by the weekend. I'll post a
message when it's ready.

Clint,
Have you guys considered posting an LPATCH "diff" file so folks could just
download the small patch here to fix their Distant Suns copies?
Denny Atkin, Associate Editor
COMPUTE's Amiga Resource
Denny:
I'm not familiar with the 'LPATCH' program. There are four different
versions of Distant Suns 4.0 (1.3 and 2.0) (FFP and FPU) which would
require four different patch files, and is likely to cause confusion to
novice users. I am willing to email the updated files to registered users
who request it.

Clint,
Speaking of Distant Suns, I have a copy of Galileo, which I understand
to be the predecessor to Distant Suns. Is there an upgrade offer available?

Michael:
Although Galileo was before our time (published by Infinity), we
still allow for upgrades. The Galileo to DS 4.0 upgrade is $45.00, and the
upgrade with Space Visions is $114.95. We have the original Infinity
registration list, but as that may not be complete, we accept the original
Galileo disk as proof of ownership.
Clint <VRLI>
Clint,
Thank you for your responce and your liberal upgrade policy. I was
worried that since you did not publish Galileo that there would be no
upgrade. It is comforting to know that you treat customers good, even if
they are not your's (yet). 8^)……

We tried to balance fairness with fiscal soundness. In the long run
if we make the Galileo owners happy, they may become future VRLI customers.
I am still not satisfied that we give as good of service as I would like us
too, but I feel that we do as well as is possible. (given the need to sleep
about 6 hours out of every 24. <grin>)

Clint:
If you are not satisfied with the level of customer support at VRLI,
then you REALLY should do something about the situation. However, in my
experience, VRLI has given me better support than any other software
company I have dealt with.
Consider your back patted, now get busy and improve <g>.

Homer:
Actually we are in the process of adding a full time tech support
person (I may have already said that, but my batteries are running low on
my battery backed up memory). He dives into it full time tomorrow. We've
been sending select calls to him for the past couple of weeks in order to
help him come up to speed. His name is Jean (pronounced zhon) Ames. For the
next few weeks he will take problem reports, consult me, and call back with
the solution. Soon, however, I expect he will know our products better than
I do.
I want VRLI to be a special company, that always goes the extra
distance for the customer. Recently I have been so busy that I have
misplaced customer technical requests and not found them for weeks. It's
little consolation to the customer if you tell him "I've just been too
busy" even if it is true. I expect this will change and we will return to
the level of support we had offered when we were smaller and had fewer
customers and had the time to give more individual support. I have faith
that our customers will remind us if we don't. <grin>
