My brother is experiencing write errors on both his floppy drives whenever copying files. He is running an A500 with Fat Agnus expanded memory (Baseboard). Any ideas why this is happening? Cheers, Paul (WA1OMM)

Paul, Are the write errors by any chance on Block 880? Is he using an Air Drive for the external by any chance? Does he have a 2.04 ROM by any chance? IF yes to all 3, then the problem is in his AIR drive. CBM tightened up the timing in 2.04 and drives that are out of spec will cause that problem. There's a new setpatch coming out that will change the timing back to the 1.3 values. Don

Thanks Don. Yes to Block 880 – Yes to V2.04 – No to the Air drives, but I suppose it may just be his old internal and external A500 drives. Cheers, Paul (WA1OMM)

Paul, Ok…very old A1010's (Amiga external drives) also may exhibit this behavior. I've got a very early A1010 here, and had adjusted the speed on it slightly slow many years ago. I too saw the write errors crop up when copying a lot of files. I reset the speed to spec and tried it several times…worked fine after the adjustment with my limited tests. Don
