#PAR SW Upgrade!

Rick, I have been following your reports on the PAR and have a question or two if you wouldnt mind. 1. Does it support the PAL TV standard ? 2. Does it support the PAL TV frame rate of 25 fps, even though there is a slightly "larger" screen size?? The magazines we get here from the USA are sent surface which puts us about 3 mths or more behind the play if we relied on them. Laurie, The PAR is NTSC only. No PAL. I agree, relying on info from the magazines is almost useless – even in Canada where we get them just slightly after the Americans. I browse through them and realize that I've heard all this stuff on CIS months before. Rick – On Autopilot from Vancouver

I believe that the DPS PAR is currently NTSC only.

As far as I have read, the Seagate ST3600A, ST3655A, and the Micropolis 2205A are supported. The ST3655A parks its head once every 120 seconds, therefore you can not do any animations longer than 2 minutes. They claim that the drive is better for speed than the ST3600A. I have the ST3600A and have had no problems with playback of animations and recordings as long as 3 minutes in length. I think that they said that with the ST3655A the quality of the picture would be better due to the fact that you could use either a larger block limit or a higher compression Q-factor, I forgot which one. DPS is constantly testing and adding hard drives. I suggest that you call them for the latest info. It is a great product. Jim R. Ollick Using AP from Bergenfield, NJ

I asked here and found out that the version I had was replaced (it may have been you who replied to me). I called DPS, gave them my address and a week later I had the latest version. The next time I talk to DPS I am going to suggest that for a fee, mabie $25 per year, a user could be placed on a list of users that get mailed new revisions as they come out. If you call DPS, perhaps you could suggest this. I for one would be willing to pay for it. You may also ask if the revision disk could be .DMSed and placed on Compuserve. Yes, but actually the PAL support may have come sooner, there were several revisions between the one I had and 1.59. There were also other things that they added such as support for 2 drives.
