My wife has spent untold hours writing a set of Science Fiction stories that some day we want to try and publish. I'm sure you see the question comming, that any publisher will say "Excellence WHAT!!!!!". I know that we could export the files as ASCCI and then import them to Word Perfect. But all the formatting would be gone, and this would require her to go thru about 4.5 meg of files and reformat, more then I think she should have to do. So Is there any one out there who knows of a way to do this, and keep the formatting intact. I have been told that Micro-Systems Software is out-of-business ?, and WP told me they have stopped supporting WP on the Amiga completly. So we would like to export, or translate, to a WP format on the Amiga, use Cross-Dos to get it to MS-Dos, and then use WP6.0 to put the files on disk to give the publisher. Many Thanks in Advance Ron Sudweeks

Ronald – This is somewhat off the subject of format translation, but do you have the MSS requirements of the publisher you're considering? I ask because the couple of times I've checked into it about the only formatting they've wanted is one-side-only with double-spaced lines. Any indication of italics, bold, etc. was to be noted in pencil in the margins if at all. Things might have changed since then but I thought I'd bring it up anyway. I've owned neither Excellence nor WP, but as they're both somewhat old programs perhaps WP was (is) able to import Excellence format – if so, you could ask around for a cheap used copy and do that. WP(Amiga) is WP(MSDOS) 4.1 compatible, I believe, and WP 6.0 should be able to import those files. Harry

Thanks for the reply, I was led-to-believ that I could have my wife send the document on disk as a WP6.0 file, you are indicating that they want it in printed form, one sided, double spaced……ect.ect. Maby I have been missinformed as to the way they want it. I do further checking. I do own WP 4.1 for the Amiga, and No it won't import Excellence. But Thanks anyway Ron Sudweeks

I can sympathize with your wife. I recently wrote a book on greenhouse gardening (Greenhouse Gardening Companion, pub by Fulcrum) and I wrote it on excellence! My publisher told me not to worry that they would handle the translation to their microsoft word. It was a disaster! I had to go over the whole book to find all kinds of little sneaky mistakes where a single letter would be wrong, or a whole word would be missing. My advice, don't let the publisher do your transfer- do it yourself or have it under your control! I have never tried cross dos, but using an older version of WP for amiga might be worth pursuing. For future writing I have added an AMAX board to my amiga and intend to use WP right on my amiga. I love science fiction and would love to see your wife' s finished product. Best of luck! Thanks for the reply, I seem to be comming up with a "No Way" as far as a utility to take a Excellence file and automatically translate it to MS-Dos WP 6.0 readable file format, (using Cross-Doss to do the platform changing) But Thanks anyway Ron Sudweeks

Some publishers can handle PageStream format although the translation from Excellence! to PageStream can lose some formatting or alternatively how about -> ASCI -> TEX? regards, Lu on AutoPilot downunder

From the replies I'm getting, it seems that there may not be a suitable way to do this. I'm afraid the Amiga is comming up short in this area. Darn! Thanks again Ron Sudweeks
