A while back, I wrote a big-old text file on two-d animation. I have just updated it and uploaded it to the animation portion of this forum. It should be validated soon. Look for it. It's called 2-d-ani.lzh It should answer most of your questions. By the way, I'm a huge fan of your renderings!

Great! Thanks for the updated text file! I'll definitely download it. Thanks also for the compliments, though I remain envious of all 2-D artists. (For some reason, my hand/eyes can't do the 3-D to 2-D translations as well as the software I use. I've tried, but still don't see how an artist can express so much with a single black line. :^)

Steven, I have the same problem of 3D to 2D translations. What I do is create a plasticine model of the character and bend it, turn it or otherwise study it to get the modelling. I also use pipecleaners, bent into stick figures to study the movement (plasticine breaks if you manhandle it too much.) These techniques could also be used in 3D animation (in fact, I got the idea from watching a show on CG in TerminatorII — they had scale replicas.) It helps to have a decent mouse too. I use a pen mouse which doubles (or more) my speed (although a Wacom tablet would be ideal.) Andrew
