#Moving Objects in 3dedit

I've been trying to get a few objects together in the 3Deditor. But th Y-axis
of both objects do not fit to a snap grid, X and Z axis are on snap, how can I
make that the 2 faces who are parallel to each other fit together and do not
intersect. Is it possible to have there faces who are parallel fit together
without having the objects intersecting a little bit? For the moment they are
intersecting a little bit so it is no trouble for rendering because it is so
little but I'd like to know if it is possible to make fit exactly together in
the 3Deditor when snap does not give a sollution ???

Hiya Christophe.
The way I get objects to sit flush with one another is to loft them that way if
possible. If you turn 3D Display ON in the Lofter you can see what you have
already lofted, and can move the lofter path so that the next lofted object
will sit right against the other object(s).
I don't know if this helps but if so, this solution is outlined in Shaping &
Lofting, which you have probably received by now.

Yeah I know the way to do it in the 3Dlofter (your book was off some help and
quick to understand), however I've got the problem with dxf imported files, but
I guess the problem could be similar if I used different snap mode settings
when drawing shapes in the 2Dshaper.
It would be nice if there was a way you could make two faces who are parallel
fit against each other in the 3Deditor, that way you could solve a few
problems, Greg Pyros talks about vertex snap and this seems to be the only
solution available, not very good in my case no vertex near enough without
losing position in another direction and the snap doesn't seem perfect. (Mijn
Frank is gevallen !!!) Functions like perpendicular to, etc.. from AutoCAD
could be nice to add to 3Dstudio, I've been using AutoCAD to much I think.
In my case even with vertex snap I do not get it right, if I zoom in real close
they do not fit together, I did manege to get them as close as possible but in
fact they are still not exactly together. In a rendering it is impossible to
notice but if I would look on the inside of the object I would see them
perforate each other.
I've watched some of the 3DS files delivered with 3DS and it seems not
everything fits perfectly together always. Example a vase included because the
vase is curved, the handle also perforates a small bit. The only way I see to
solve it perfectly is doing a Boolean Union. Is this a good way ??

Have you considered using an interface program like Autodesk's Visual Link, or
Schreiber Instrument's Imagine Interface? These programs allow you to assign
materials, create lights and cameras (with paths) in Autocad, then save the
whole thing as a .3DS file.
I'm not sure, but I have a feeling this may solve your problem.
I'll be recieving Visual Link in the next couple of days, so I'll let you know
what I think.
