I have a friend, new to the Amiga, who (being as he is an idiot) knows nothing
of how to network his Ami to his PC. He only needs file transfer capability;
he is creating big, enormous, inefficient IFF graphics on his pathetic Intel
machine and then wants to zoom them over to his A3000 so as to write them to
videotape via his soon-to-be-acquired PAR. Don't ask ME why he insists on
using the inferior, second-rate graphics creation software on his intentionally
boring machine, but he does.
I know vaguely that PARnet might meet his need for a relatively-inexpensive,
reasonably-quick file transfer system, but we haven't been able (being as we
are idiots) to find anything out about this. The local Amiga mavens are no
help, being retro-hippie brain cases whose idea of networking is to stick a
floppy in drive A. Anybody know anything?

You could also use a null modem cable also. The cables are pretty common
and the transfer rates pretty good.
Currently, the ParNET is for connecting two Amigas together through the
Parallel port using both a custom parallel cable and software driver that
must be installed on both machines.
There appears to a card for allowing upto 256 Amigas to be conncted
together using the ParNET, and I've heard rumours of a card in Germany
that would give the IBM/compatible a ParNET port.
I don't think the ParNET is the right solution (at least until that card
surfaces.)
He could use the "CrossDOS" software of the A3000 to write the files to an
IBM disk that can be read by the PC.
OR he could simply hook a NULL modem cable between the two computers, and
transfer the files using terminal software.
