I am just curious to know if anyone has any thoughts on the recent purchase of SOFTIMAGE by Microsoft. Microsoft has recently hired an animation Guru ( His name escapes me now ) to over see their animation development and the recent beta of WindowsNT ( Daytona ) includes GL technology licensed from Silicon Graphics. Can one assume that one day in the near future we will see a SOFTIMAGE animation package running under WindowsNT on a PC at an affordable price? Is 3DS looking at this? I also heard that 3DS is working with Silicon Graphics on some projects. I would be very interested in your comments. Thank you, Jim

Well, you might hear something about Microsoft, but if 3DS is working on anything backstage, we won't hear a word.

I think we can safely assume that in the future all platforms will be able to run all software. It would appear that the industry leaders are heading in this direction. Question is when will we be there?

Jim: The Autodesk announcement re: SGI was that the 3DS renderer would soon be available on SGI. Just the renderer. David CADalyst

I personally think MS was more immediately interested in the *_technology_* rather than the package itself. As Don said, it's very possible that most all s/w will someday run on most all h/w. If so, I can only see the by-products of such as good news for the end-users. BILL
