RE: How do we wake up the publishers? The only way is for everyone to write them and tell them what we want…some Amiga publishers are aware and have new CD-Titles for the Amiga…look at Micro R&D with their 2 new Amiga CD's this year and they've been big sellers for me [C Now if we can make the game publishers aware of the damand for Amiga ECS/AGA/CD32/CDTV compatible titles maybe they'll be more careful in their coding to ensure compatibility for all Amiga CD platforms. Some titles like Defender of The Crown II should have been compatible with any Amiga CD platform..no excuse..so why is it only CDTV and CD32 compatible? And it's an ECS game.

I can see games not working if they use the Akido(sp) chip but there is no excuse for them not running otherwise. What could it take? An extra startup-sequence? Maybe a PEEK somewhere to see if CD0: is mounted? It doesn't seem like a big deal for the publishers to do. Best, —Mike—

"I can see games not working if they use the Akido(sp) chip but there is no excuse for them not running otherwise. What could it take?" It would take the special CDROM drivers that Commodore would not make available for the Amiga. Sometimes the extra functions in the CDTV drivers are useful to a CDROM developer and they will use the functions, making the software incompatible with the plain drivers used on Amigas. If Commodore had included the drivers with AmigaDOS, CDTV/32 developers would have millions of additional potential customers. Instead, Commodore kept CDTV/32 walled-off and essentially a separate platform (somewhat compatible, but people don't want to chances with "somewhat"). -Chris

Chris, Thanks for the insight. It's funny that games like Liberation CD32 work fine with the plain ol' CD ROM but others just crash and burn or die part way through. I guess we don't have to hold our breath for Commodore to release *anything* much less drivers for us humble CD game players.<g> On another subject, is there a CDXL utility that will work with something other than a CD32? I've tried the programs off of the Amiga CD mag discs but they are looking for CD32 libraries that must be in ROM. Best, —Mike—
