I am trying to get 3DS3 to run on a new Intel 90Mhz PCI/ISA system. I built this system using a true Intel motherboard (Plato) w/64Mb ram, Adaptec PCI SCSI controller, several Conner 1.05Gb drives and an ATI ProTurbo 4Mb PCI bus (Mach64). All of my applications run great except 3DS! I am configuring the video drivers (3DS VIBCFG) and selecting the ATI ProTurbo board. I am using the Vibrant drivers dated 6/15/94. If I try to test the selected video mode or continue on and run 3DS I get the error: Abnormal Program Termination:Page Fault CS:EIP = 000Fh:001F413Eh I have tried to reload 3DS from scratch, to no avail. Any ideas out there. Thanks SSH –Graphic Realities–

Sounds like a pretty custom hardware configuration, Scott. Phar Lap is probably choking somewhere in the memory management process, but I'd have no idea where. Perhaps one of the hardware experts here on the forum could give you some ideas. – G

I had the same problem with the first p-60 I bought about 6 months ago. Everything ran great but 3DS would bomb with that message while starting about 2/3 of the time. I even tried to replace my simms. I ended up selling that machine and getting a new 90mhz Gateway and the problems ceased. Good luck. Mitch

Is this a PCI/ISA P90 Gateway machine. I was told that Gateway used the same Intel Plato motherboard in there PCI/ISA P90 systems. Are you using the 4mb MACH64 PCI card in this system. Let me know if this the case and it all works! Thanks SSH –Graphic Realities–

When and where can I get 1.04? Doesn't seem to be online here. Thanks- Mitch

Yes, but my card only has 2meg. The system works great except for the notorious Mach 64 /3DS delays (which might be fixed judging from the last message). I highly reccomend Gateway's stuff. Mitch

Seems like a pretty safe configuration (I avoid the ATI cards like the plague, though – waiting 5 minutes to get into the Materials Editor is just a bit much for me <g>). You probabaly have a memory conflict: time to do some sleuthing. If you need suggestions for getting to the bottom of this, let me know. John Tissavary (LUNA cie, inc)

I have tried booting without loading anything. I pulled out every card but the MACH64, connected an IDE drive to the embedded IDE controller, removed the Adaptec PCI SCSI controller and reset the MACH to factory defaults. This did not help. If I remove the 2mb upgrade from the MACH64 it works fine in 3DS3, but I don't think that there is a hardware problem with the memory upgrade. I am able to run any resolution and number of colors in windows, with all 4mb installed. I finally broke down spent about an hour on the phone with ATI and Intel and they are blaming the Vibrant drivers. Mitch Gates (up the thread) said that he was using a Gateway 90mhz and it works fine.??? I was told that Gateway was using the same Intel board that I am using. I just got rid of a Pentium 66mhz because of compatibility problems. At least the MGAII+ 4mb in that machine worked with 3ds, even though I was never satisfied that the vibrant drivers pushed the card to its max refresh rate (it never seemed as solid in 3ds as in Windoz). I thought that I would try the MACH64 because is was cheaper and faster. This may have turned out to be another mistake. This is starting to really bother me! Let me know if you have any other ideas or suggestions. Thanks SSH –Graphic Realities–

The ATI is definitely cheaper, but there's a good reason for it <g>. The MGA is faster, I believe, at higher, 24bit resolutions. I run 3DS at 1152x24bit, and don't think the ATI is as fast. Also, the MGA works. Sounds like you need to get a different VGA card. I personally hate both ATI and Diamond, but that's just me. John Tissavary (LUNA cie, inc)

YOu may want to upload your config.sys and autoexec.bat. I have a machine very similar to yours here in the shop. I might be able to lend a suggestion.
